[guide] how to backup your save file
unfortunately, if your data was overwritten you will not be able to get it back.
but here are instructions on how to backup your save file in case something happens to it in the future!

1. open file explorer
2. at the top address bar type in %appdata% and hit enter. this will bring you to an Appdata/Roaming folder.
3. open the "Godot" folder -> open the "app_userdata" folder -> open the "webfishing_2_newver" folder.
4. open another file explorer tab and navigate to "Documents"
5. right click, make a folder and name it "webfishing backups"
6. go back to the "webfishing_2_newver" folder and drag your mouse to select all three save files: "webfishing_data.save", "webfishing_migrated_data.save", "webfishing_migrated_data_backup.save".
7. press ctrl+c to copy the files.
8. go to the "webfishing backups" folder you just created and press ctrl+v to paste the files. now your .save files are in a safe location.

repeat the process every time you feel like you need to backup your progress.
if for some reason you open the game and your save file is gone, you can go to the documents folder you created and retrieve the backup.

if you want to move your file between two different devices, just copy the three .save files and drop them in the correct folder on your alternate device.

---

where to find your save file on the steam deck:

1. on your steam deck enter desktop mode.
2. open dolphin file manager and enter the "home" folder on the left sidebar.
3. make sure hidden files are enabled. to do this press the icon with the 3 lines at the top right and check the box next to "show hidden files".
4. navigate to "/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3146520/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Godot/app_userdata/"
5. there should be a "webfishing_2_newver" folder and the steps will be the same as above.

if you want to easily move files between your PC and steam deck look into setting up KDE Connect.

You can also use apps like Google Drive / Syncthing to make this process automatic. Just set the folders you want to backup and they will be stored in your cloud/another device. Pretty helpful since you don't have to spend time on updating the files, and it can save your data in case your PC was wiped/bluescreened

Would this be dangerous if a bug wiped a save and replaced it with a new one? Then that would be synced to your cloud drive and potentially make you lose the one you backed up.

GUIDE FOR LINUX USERS
Because let's be honest here, there are going to be some transgirls who will want to play this game on their favorite Linux distro. :luv:
(I use Linux Mint 22 XFCE, but these steps should be similar for most Linux distros.)

1. Open up your file manager; whether that be Thunar, Nautilus, etc.
2. Navigate to your file system and open up the main home folder.
3. Then go into whatever user folder you have installed the Steam game library's directory under (where the game itself is downloaded), and go into .local and then share.
4. From there, you will find the main Steam folder, then open up steamapps, compatdata, then a string of numbers that should correspond with the game's SteamID (which is 3146520).
5. Click on the pfx folder and by then you should see the drive_c folder, click on it.
6. From here you will see a file system similar to that of a Windows OS (ew I know but bare with me here), then hit that users folder and you will find the user folder that steam made in order for you to play the game on Linux within a Proton compatibility layer (crazy I know).
7. Hit AppData, then Roaming, then Godot, and by then you should see the funny folder where all of the save data is saved. I highly recommend copying the ENTIRE folder onto somewhere else just to be EXTRA SURE. You never know...

FILE ADDRESS EXAMPLE:
/home/USER/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3146520/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Godot/app_userdata/webfishing_2_newver/SAVE_DATA_HERE

Hope this helps my fellow degenerate Linux users, sorry for yapping too much but this is what this game is about anyway. Yapping. :ujel:
