Do bait types influence catch rate/tier?

Title - I am trying to fill out the journal, and unfortunately I'm missing a few "normal" rarity, high-tier fish. Do different baits (crickets, squid, etc) only influence the chance of getting higher rarity fish? ie, shining, glistening etc.

So if I need to go after a normal rarity Golden Bass, I'm thinking of using crickets, gold or shining hook, and soda.

I did some tests by using crickets with 4 different lures - basically, it's like I thought! almost all fish were "normal" except for a few shining, with the Sparkling lure having the largest quantity of Tier 2 and 3 fish.

funnily enough, the golden lure had something like 80% tier 1 fish, and I did not catch any gold. e_e
