Dev is ignoring security issues
Bots that keep scraping for IP's plague the game and the developer has done nothing to stop it. Why can't private islands be offline? Why does it require a connection to the internet? The only "safe" way to play this game is to use a VPN. It's insane to me that this game is permitted to be sold given the complete lack of basic security standards.

tbh he needs to work with a company or sell it to a studio who knows how to deal with games this big, one person isn't enough to handle like ~16k people joining daily asking for multiple changes or at least i think he's just working on this by himself

*if* they continue to work on it, they've been getting harassed, so if they just choose to wipe their hands clean and walk away i couldn't blame them.

It's a shame folks are such babies now that they can't let a simple fishing game just do its thing.

They could go hack something big, but instead they're acting like children because they saw a word they didn't like. How petty can you get.

It'd be really funny if someone like pirate software stepped in. It'd be over fast if someone worth their salt stepped in.

And this is where we see uneducated people being concerned about their IP despite note knowing that it's literally used everywhere and not a secret. It's not a security issue it's the base of P2P which helps the game to avoid centralized issues, supports potential LAN connectivity for an Offline support.

Educate yourself. It should not be an issue.
Or what do u think they are gonna do, hack a bunch of furries? There are higher value targets... literally anything.

Thats far from the only concern here. Way to be reductive and rude.

there's a really big surge of tech illiteracy right now, fueled largely in part by tech companies obfuscating that kind of information as much as possible bc it's easier to sell overpriced junk to folks who just don't know any better. i'm not callin' nobody stupid, it's a legit problem. it's not your fault if you're not taught something, esp if it's being intentionally made harder to access that information. that's part of the issue with people misunderstanding how this stuff works on a base level and how to gauge a threat level with any level of precision. we gotta start sharing the knowledge again and passing it on.

anyway, that aside, i also think it is absolutely not the answer to just shove every indie game into the hands of a big company. i actually think that's an extremely bad idea for such a large number of reasons i could easily write a college-level & length essay on it, but that's not really helpful in this context bc lbr, ain't nobody gonna read all that, and it would go into so many directions it'd derail Everything.

so please let me stress that taking games away from indie developers because they happened to experience an unpredictable surge of popularity is not a solution to... anything. it would be much better if we could work on educating each other like i mentioned above while also trying to support the developer (note, single developer, 1 [one] person), esp financially, so they would be able to work on fixing these issues, whether they continue doing it on their own, or if they decide to hire a few folks for helping specifically with the game's security.

let's be good to each other and remember that the people who make the games we love so much are people. give them some space to learn and grow, just like you deserve the same space to learn and grow, too. :)

I don't think it's that the dev is intentionally ignoring it, more so they're trying to lay low because of the vindictive weirdos that decided to turn this game into one of their latest 'culture war' battlegrounds and have been harassing everyone playing the game as well as the dev cause they dared to make an openly LGBT furry game

Strangely, when they're not busy harassing random indie games for being 'woke', you'll often spot these same sort of folks preach that devs should be allowed to have 'creative freedom'

blame all the weirdos that are harassing him and hacking his social media accounts. I doubt the game will get touched again after the treatment he got.

This still doesn't explain why "offline" lobby's aren't offline at all. I love this game, but I hate that security was simply an afterthought. There's so much passion that is clearly in this game, and it truly is one of my favorite games. I hate to see it die because the developer neglected due diligence.

"due diligence" bro made the game in a few days and everyone since day 1 have been begging him for stuff that he doesn't have to do, either play the game or don't play it. Shaming the dev won't make them do what you want. Respectfully, go away.

Enjoy playing your game filled with RCE exploits while the dev takes the money and runs, respectfully.

if its that much of an issue for you you can always refund it, given a reasonable...reason to the support team will allow a refund well past the 2 weeks 2 hours line.

in the end: single dev that didn't expect to be harassed off of social media not doing immidate fixes for something they never expected isn't some sorta failure on their part.

quite frankly they coulda just released the game and moved on to the next project, as is their right, their attempt to fix it with the first patch before people were in full swing harassing them shows intent, but you cannot account for others behaving themselves.

You realize you are able to enjoy the game, and hold the developer accountable at the same time, right? This has been an issue for over a month, that has not been resolved. With the earnings made from the game, he should be able to hire a professional to help mitigate vulnerabilities like this.

The dev had his social media account hacked and is trying to lay low after a ton of harassment

Really people are expecting the dev to have the same power as an entire company while this guy is getting harassed back and forth and who knows what his personal life is. And this expectation of him to be able to hire people is way oversimplified like it's not that easy.
