Best mods for this game? (That aren't straight up cheating)
I have some modding experience with ULTRAKILL, and since i already have r2modman installed, i checked out the WEBFISHING tab. Now i got it up and running and downloaded 3 or 4 mods like WebWardrobe, Fishing+ and Potato Radio. I don't like Cosmetic mods, because people who don't have the mod would just see me as a white cat. I also don't like mods that are straight up cheating (like flying or giving myself money). so are there some nice mods?

After reading this text i again realize that i am a certified yapper.

no community mods are safe as they are third party website downloads that you can't confirm the safety of without code diving so I'd recommend staying completely vanilla

Thunderstore has links to the GitHub repositories of every mod, if you feel as if a mod is dangerous and you dont know how to read and understand GDScript/C#, use ChatGPT to get an understanding of what the code does. I can verify the safety of AntiLag and MidiStrummer 100% ive read through them (with the intention of opening a pull request to improve them), and any cosmetic mod should be safe by default, and again if you are worried then just read the code.

I recommend AntiLag to mitigate the netcode issues with the game, as well as the mod to disable the guitar to prevent lag from people using MidiStrummer. Fair warning that AntiLag causes issues such as permanent meteors and ripples when hosting, so disable it when you plan on hosting.

Ok, thanks. I didn't know that

Yep you heard them. Nexusmods is a site for sharing viruses. Gamebanana is literally a malware distribution service. Thunderstore sent me a mailbomb after I downloaded a zip from them. It doesn't matter if thousands of people have downloaded these mods and combed through their files determining they are completely safe, you are in danger and you should feel fear right this second. That mod you downloaded is actually a worm wriggling through your PC stealing all your informations and selling them to chinese hackers. That worm has literally eaten a full gig of your ram and you haven't even realized.

Yes, I too live under a bunker with a tinfoil hat and a PC housing seventeen separate installations of Nortons. :steamhappy:

Only joking, there's nothing wrong with being vigilant of course. But you won't stop anyone that wants to mod by telling them "it's not safe", and rejecting the modding community does kinda go against the spirit of computer gaming.

Anyways, what mods you want depends heavily on what you want out of modding. Beyond the extra customization items and cheat mods, there are also performance enhancements, QOL, lots of utilities, and more. But mods I personally appreciate having include:

  • Tackle Box: Practically a necessity, it adds a "Mods" menu in-game to see what mods have successfully loaded, and lets you access config options for mods that support it. Also a dependency for some mods.

  • Xenon: A swiss army knife of game-altering options. Lot of cheats, but also a lot of utility like removing freecam restrictions, zoom cap, prop limit, etc. Very handy if you can ignore the existence of the cheats, but there are alternatives for some of its utility if not. (FreeFreecam for example)

  • Nlag and AntiLag: Two mods that aim to improve performance, though your mileage may vary. One allows for multi-threaded processing of network packets and the other optimizes various rendering functions with customizable culling distance, effects, etc.

  • MusicAnywhere: Plays random in-game music tracks on shuffle while you're fishing, rather than only playing when the game feels like it.

  • Colorful_Menus: Does what it says on the tin. You can create/import/export custom UI themes. It only comes with one, a sci-fi looking "dark mode", but there's probably a WEBFISHING modding discord where you can collect more.

  • Kmod and SizeUnlocker: Become smol (or large!) without the need of soda, using custom keybinds. Maybe "cheaty", but it saves you from having to chug down a six pack every time you join a lobby.

  • ReelChat: Proximity-based voice chat, so you can yap and yap and yap with your real voice. Annoying downside I've noticed is that the custom keybinds keep resetting after I change them.

  • VoiceStuff and Pitched_Vocals: The former greatly extends the limits of voice pitch and speed, while the latter makes your meows/barks/etc respect your chosen pitch. (vanilla users can hear the difference!)

  • MIDI_Strummer: Pretend you know how to actually play Darude Sandstorm on guitar in a video game by downloading a MIDI off of some sketchy site you've never heard of and let you and your companions' ears rejoice (or bleed). Requires third-party MIDI playback software, but not any specific one. Mod description has some good recommendations.

That's just a small selection of the terribly many and cool mods on the thunderstore right now so don't be afraid to browse for more!

I think my favourite mod right now is Skymenu. it requires skyAPI by the same mod author. It gives you 30 skyboxes that change the way the game is lit. I much prefer this to the Day/night mod as the night is extremely dark for that mod. If you want to change the way this game looks visually skymenu is the best mod for that right now.
