I think we can all compartmentalize that we are walking talking sentient animals that fish and the things in the water are just animals with animal brain. People want to be turtles and frogs and those are both things you can fish in the game. Anthro-animals are not equal to animals.

I think instead of specific species, just different options of ears, muzzles, texture skin (scale,fur) could go a long way to make your own unique character (and set the roars to what you want, meows, barks, hisses)
