SpaceEngine

Space Engine will not open
I have never had any problems before, but have not opened it since the volumetric rings update. Now, it will not work. Whenever I start the game, the loading screen will appear and the loading bar will begin to fill up slightly but then stop very soon after. The loading screen will then just disappear and the game will say not running on the steam page. I have tried deleting and reinstalling. It does the exact same thing every time. Please help, I really love this game.

Most likely, you are trying to run SE on Intel graphics, which does not meet the minimum requirements for the program. You need an AMD or Nvidia GPU with at least 2 GB of VRAM to run SpaceEngine properly. Integrated Intel graphics are not enough.

You can try running an older build of the program, which might work better, by following this procedure:
  1. Right-click on SpaceEngine in your Steam library
  2. Select Properties
  3. Go to the Betas tab
  4. Select 0.990.42 in the list
  5. Close the menu and SpaceEngine will automatically change to the previous version

Please provide your log as I said to the previous posted.

Also your computer definitely does not meet the minimum requirements.

(1) Sir, I believe I meet/exceed the minimum requirements
Windows 10 (min Windows 7)
64 bit OS
2GB VRAM NVidia card
12TB HDD space (min 4GB)

(2) I have emailed a log file per instructions, subject line: my name and the date

Thanks you in advance for your help

Your GPU has very little processing power, less than a third of what is equivalent to minimum spec.

The only suggestion I can make, based on your log, is to go into the main-user.cfg file in the config folder and change VideoMemorySize to 2048.

If that doesn't work, try deleting that file entirely.

Otherwise, try reverting to an earlier version as I suggested to the original poster.

I reverted back to 0.42 - no joy
further reverted back to 0.39 - ok now

greatly appreciate your advice.

Are there any release notes saying on which specific platforms (i.e. specific configuration of CPU/GPU/OS/RAM/etc) each version is tested on? Would probably increase the debug efficiency for all concerned). Fully sympathetic to the pressures of development vs the drag of QA, not complaining, believe me.

It is tested on a number of different platforms. There is no list, sorry.

Try this procedure:
  1. Reboot Windows
  2. Uninstall OpenAL
  3. Reboot Windows
  4. Download and install OpenAL from here: https://www.openal.org/downloads/oalinst.zip
  5. Reboot Windows
