for me games like this (rogue-likes) are never better in mp
10/10 would fght the boss again.
It's probably easier in multiplayer though, especially since you can revive each other (which is kinda unfair, makes MP much easier then SP)
I've beaten Insane on single player, and hot damn it is a challenge, but worth every second of the fun. As for MP being easier, I'd actually say the difficulty level is pretty well on par. The big suggestion I'd give, solo I've had the best luck advancing with Warlock because of the multiple lives being a thing.

I got the spell that makes all hits a critical on mobs in the room, plus an item that boosted crit dmg by 50%. Was amazing, ha.
