how do you actually use wooden stairs?

After crafting this item i cannot find anywhere that i'm actually allowed to place it down so i can use it. Selecting it on the hotbar then right clicking to tplace it somewhere just does nothing as if the area is unsuitable for it to be placed or something. Tried to set it down in many different locatiosn so far, none have worked.

hmm...that sounds weird. You aren't in combat mode are you? (the center button on the hotbar would be red) because if you right click it on a flat peice of ground, it should place it above the ground and then by pushing 0 (zero) or ground placement mode it goes into the ground allowing you to go down.

but if it's not being placed at all...then either the ground has an object on it (tree, rocks) or you are in combat mode. Can you place walls and such?

yep i can place walls and chests and work stations all just fine, just the stairs refuse to be placed down

Can you place blocks in the ground, try placing a stone brick in the ground.

I think i'm too early on for that, only played 2 hours of the game last night(just bought it then) and none since getting up today, I don't have any stone bricks yet.

Re-reading the developers post above me, I hadn't realized you could place stuff above/below ground and needed to hit a key to do so. I'll try fiddling around with that when i get around to playing later in the day and see if it solves the issue.

rmcin329 - pardon me if you have already tried this, but I don't think you are reading what people are trying to tell you,either. Maybe you should not immediately yell at people who tried to help you by telling them they failed to read your post, when you are not fully reading posts either.

First, press the 0 key, or click on the ground mode button. Then select the stairs that you built, and right-click a place on the ground to place the stairs.

Have you tried it this way yet? I don't know why you would not be able to place the stairs normally, without clicking the 0 key.

You are correct, there. The initial answer was pretty vague, but the developer explained it completely. I am just glad you got it working. This game is so much fun!

i did not say i have gotten it working, i haven't even tried the suggestions here yet, as i don't have time to play the game at the moment, I might in a couple of hours.

Okay got around to some playing, pressing 0 does indeed let me set the stairs into the ground, problem solved. I'm not sure how much i'll play right now though, kind of waiting for them to fix the crashing issues this game seems to have.
