In DD1, you ever notice how only certain enemies went for and or used certain weapons?

I notice that Linda was the only enemy that went for and used the whip. Of the male charactrers, some would pick up the bat, some would not. I notice the Abobos on top of the mountain could pick up the rock.

I suppose this created variety. But then, if all enemies could go for and use all weapons, then there would always be a threat if there were any weapons on the screen / playable area.
