They are both the same.

No one is playing online and the devs dropped the ball on the 2 of them...emmm, make that 3 with Snooker Nation.

Glad I could help.
Thanks again.

Pool Nation FX looks nicer than the older Pool Nation.
The physics are similar but more realistic in regard to table speed (mainly faster with less friction).
There are more game modes and options/tweaks/customisations.
The single player career mode is much more fleshed out.

Overall FX is a substantially better game.
I'd say the main proviso is that being UE4 and fairly pretty, it's requires relatively decent specs to run well. The old game is more forgiving. The good thing is that you can try it for free.

Regarding the above:
- Multiplayer is not busy, but it's not totally dead either. Most times of day you will find a game or have someone join if you create one.
- Development is slow going and communication is poor. There has not been an update for sometime now despite it being stated that there is one on the horizon. There are some unresolved bugs and issues
That said, I do think the game as it stands now, ignoring updates or lack thereof, is a good experience and worth the money. There is nothing game breaking or very fundamentally wrong and it is a fun and fulfilling game to play and attempt to master if you like pool.

Is multiplayer in PNFX locked behind paid DLC?

And all titles will get updated again soon, once I know more, and an update is scheduled a post will be released on the relevant forums :)

I agree with every word.

F2P games are always going to get a lot of hate from the cheapskates. CPG wanted to improve the pool of gamers for multiplayer, and occasionally, a good way to do that is via the F2P model. Sadly all the hate steers potentially interested players away thinking that the cheapskates may have valid arguements. Their vitriol also slowly pushes the devs away from the forums.

It's their little self-fulfilling prophecy and a fundamentally broken part of the F2P community. :)

Kind of like the creators of Pokémon Go, if I could have 1 thing it would be proper communication

As a single-player game, I think it's fantastic and I enjoy it quite a bit. It's a nice follow up to the previous Pool Nation game.
