Stumped already: elevator handle

In the first hour of the game. I found a mysterious crank handle in one of the staterooms, and then I found a "link elevator" which requires a crank handle as a security measure, but there is no way to "use" the handle. I've been around the station and can't find anything else to interact with. Am I doing something wrong or is this not the correct handle?

Please don't spoil me too much, I just want to know if there's some control I'm missing to make this work or if I should search the station again. Thanks

It is not the good handle for the elevator. There is a room with some strange container somewhere, in the room with those three fridge, search there.

In case anyone else is looking, the Link Elevator Handle is in one of the Bio Lab rooms, on a shelf.

I still can't find this thing. I have been to the bio-lab at least 4 times now and I click all over everything and don't see it on a shelf. :(

ok if anyone else is really struggling with this part like I am, here's how to get it:
look at the pictures on the board to make the cat appear, once the cat appears, open the weird container in the middle of the room. this triggers an event and you can go into one of the locked rooms, go into it and search the body for the key. This lets you into bio-lab 2 so you can get the lever
