There are indeed lots of decorative crystals on this map, but not all of them are. :)

Personally I did not feel that this puzzle was very difficult. You get a clear hint as to which stone is the correct one, you just need to remember which of the symbols you've already seen before. And failing that, just trying all of the stones will also lead to the solution.

Anyway, thanks for the help. I have finally completed the puzzle. However, it seems that the reason I failed to complete it to begin with is because I didn't realise that the close-up of the orange crystals was at all interactive. Fortunately, now that I know this, I have been able to complete the game and achieve two different endings. I've got to admit that despite the frustration, I did enjoy this game.
There's still more to discover, though...
