There's X-rated content in games on Steam now. But to the OP I haven't played it but it looks like more of a tease.
Like what? I doubt I'd spend money on it, but it'd still be nice to see that Steam's loosening up on this stuff.
Well there is a game on Steam where you get to play as a middle school child and do interesting things like...
"Be anally probed, aid in anally probing a friends father, perform a mock abortion on your friends father, go cross-dressing, and even go on an extended adventure inside of a homosexual mans rectum."
What game is that? Is it actually explicit, or is it one of those games that uses shock-value scenarios while also shying away from everything that might actually make people uncomfortable?
South Park - The Stick of Truth.
It just amuses me that the game has all that stuff involving children in it and no one bats an eye... but the moment a visual novel goes up on Steam, regardless of its content, so many people just lose their minds.
As for whether or not its explicit... I'd say that South Park, along with games like Mass Effect, The Witcher series, Dragon Age, etc, is vastly more explicit than any visual novel, or any anime style game, thats on Steam.
Ah, that explains it then.
While I find it silly that Steam would exclude erotic games from its repertoire, I'm not really into VN-type games anyway. I like my games more, uh... game-y?
And when I play a game with erotic content, it's usually because it's an actual good game. The erotic content can be a pleasant addition but it's not like finding that sort of thing on the internet is all that difficult.
Eroico, for example, is a super-short game but one that's masterfully designed and reminds me of old NES and SNES platformers. It's just exceedingly charming in so many ways.
It's incredibly sad that so many people will miss out on these games just because they don't see as much coverage as mainstream (or even indie) ones. There are some real gems out there.
There is a difference between comedy and fan service/porn. South Park has been like that since the 90's, it's no surprise. The difference is that South Park makes fun and doesn't try to turn the users on.
Not to mention the content on South Park, Mass Effect and The Witcher series as well as Dragon Age is not built around the sexuality of it's characters. You're making terrible comparisions because this game is all about the fan service, whereas the other games feature side content.
I wasn't trying to say that visual novel style games have a bunch of content and are on par or any such thing.
It just amuses me how much can be gotten away with in non-anime stuff without causing people to get all up in arms.
Justifying borderline child porn in South Park simply because it "has been like that since the 90's" sounds like a pretty flimsy case. I mean couldn't that same justification apply to anime? "Anime and anime based stuff isn't inappropriate in any way because its been that way for ages." Sounds solid to me.
Also stating that something having comedy and additional content makes a games inappropriate content able to be overlooked is a bit daft in my opinion.
Personally, my stance on the issue as a whole is that I could care less either way. I play whatever.
I just find the double standards amusing. I can watch Family Guy or South Park during a family reunion and regardless of whats going on in it ...everyone is a-okay with it. Baby trying to seduce a dog? No problem! Kid being dared to climb in the womb of their bus driver? Nothing out of place here! But... If I were to be watching anime and there was anything close to questionable, like a suggestive line of dialogue, an odd outfit, or god forbid anything even hinting at nudity, and people will act like they just caught me watching a snuff film.
Ditto. So unless the is the promise of actual hentai, I can't be bothered!
Someone implied that this is the censored version of an eroge with standard sex scenes. This sometimes happens in Japan; if the VN is solid enough without the sex, they release a mostly non-erotic version to a larger audience.
But I haven't seen any indication that this was true here. Unless someone is willing to do the research, I'd assume it's not the case. It's just a short VN with lots of cleavage.
