The battle to save the (Spoiler redacted)
I am doing the Alliance mission to save the diplomat and the 600 children. And well, since Icari will bail on me, the fight seem to be neigh impossible.

I tried so far

1) Hide in the corner - countered by infinite Destroyer spam

2) Dive pass the enemy-Too many destoryer spawn in my way.

3) Fight one step/fire ma lazers-Also don't work, as I get overwhelmed by Destroyer spam again.

Even if I upgraded my ship to full defense, the enemy will just snip the stupid boat behind me.

Am I missing something here? Or is the morally correct choice of letting 600 kids die? What is this? Game of Thrones?

For one thing, the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lkmgp_b8y7s&index=5&list=PLjJPGRHVqhE8oims3CLKA36VQ9Hqmv-JZ might help. It shows someone beating the entire battle without saving even once. On Hard Mode. Studying this, and trying diffcerent things yourself, should allow you to win, or at least get closer to doing so. I believe there are also a couple topics on this page that deal with this battle. If this isn't enough help, I could track them down for you.

They ignore transport if Sunrider and Asara invest in battle they get more agro so you just need sneek transport to right ...
JohnSmith Aug 5, 2014 @ 4:51am
The biggest trick to this battle is that you need to move the transport two spaces forward each turn. Have the other units keep up with the pace and destroy as many enemies as possible with the energy that remains. By doing that you can escape before too many enemies show up. In my experience *not* doing this will get you into big trouble unless you're playing VN mode or have trully 1337 turn based strategy skills. Which is why it kinda sucks if you don't think of doing this.

Destroying all enemies before the next reinforcement wave arrives (so that no enemies are left on the screen) will also win the battle even without taking the transport to the edge.

At least that worked for me on Normal difficulty. However this was extremely close and required a neatly lined up train of 5-6 enemies taking a Vanguard cannon blast to the face so the "proper" escort method is probably still easier/preferable. :)

I did the run without saving on Normal mode, unfortunately I didn't take notes on what upgrades I had during that particular mission. But even a "noob" should be able to get similar upgrades as I did without having any difficulty.

I've attempted both, as I'm pretty sure most other people have as well. Escorting the sarcophagus with rockets is a heck of a lot harder than leaving it to die though.

doing the 'right' thing is often not the 'easiest' thing.
If you want to protect a vulnerable ship in the middle of a battle that's gonna be harder than just escaping - that should be obvious.

previous video games may have taught you that no matter if you choose mission X or mission Y they both have to be just as difficult, or at least the difficicult one has to give better rewards but that's not the sort of game this is.

You're supposed to be a ship captain first and some person playing a strategy game second. we want you to you take the difficulty of a task into consideration when you choose whether you do or do not save as many lives as you can.

the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few :)

The thing is, Spock said that when he was sacrificing his OWN life. A sacrifice is easy to make when you're not the one losing anything.

I chose to try and protect the ship. While I frequently adopt a machiavellian/utilitarian strategy in choice-oriented games, it's really situational. In Dysfunctional Systems, the girl you play as seemed like the kind of idealistic person to not sacrifice lives for any reason, and in this situation I'm playing as a sort of by-the-books professional captain, who wouldn't be the sort to play dirty to win.

My own personal ethics brought me towards helping the diplomats as well, and as soon as I learned there were children on board I knew that I made the right choice. That said, the number of times I've died on this mission so far have occasionally made me wish that I had just declared "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD" and let them die so I could just beat up PACT.

In the first video posted, one of the comments reads "That's because my other units are drawing aggro from the damage they did to the PACT units" Does that basically mean that enemies are more likely to attack something that damaged them in the previous turn than something that did not?

yes, absolutely. attacking a unit and especially blowing it up gives your units a lot of 'hate' which makes the enemy AI prioritize those units more, as they are considered a threat. if you make sure you stay on the offensive you can sneak the Mochi Agamemnon right past the enemies and they'll just ignore it ;)

Don't deel frustated if you can't beat a mission this game is not easy, but when you win it actually feels like you really won. What i mean is that there are so many games games out there that makes the player "OP" so he can win easier.
