Thank you for the map (E4)
Sjoerd, I just want to say thank you for the map in the ice cave! It is definitely awesome and beautfiul!!! I love that it is 3d and circulating! Great!!! What I was thinking about was a map that wilson is recording while exploring the caves. Wouldn't it be a logical thing for this pda to record the way I walk? Or would it make the whole thing to easy?

Edit: I am asking because I have absolutely no idea which way to follow in the cave to the 2nd isle >_<

No, the map I am talking about is in the caves. And my question is about a simple 2d-map. I think a holomap would be a little bit to much :D

No problem :)
But if you are asking for a minimap we feel that would make people walk around solely by looking at the map all the time instead of taking in the environment, and paying attention to what is around them. Like drivers driving into a river because they only look at the GPS :)

I think a Wilson mapping function would be great for the game. It would not have to be on screen all the time, you press a button and it pops up and you can tell were you have been and you can make notes in it too, but no heads up display or markers in the world, that would take away from the game. It would be of great use in the underground section of the game I get lost all the time down there and the land marks don't help me at all because I forget were they are at.

maybe the player could drop a red beacon with a red been to vector for easy backtracking the forward vector can be confusing
its a good idea to drop beacons at the entrance to each area makes it easier to find where you already been to go back and find stuff ya missed(too many beacons get confusing white markers everywhere)
so idea is a red backward vector
green forward red back then can follow red vector to go back like open a map like in gta and pin a location to go to exit map and have a vector to get there
map could be a simple 2d map with a picture of each island press m to see the map with island 1 island 2 island 3 etc choose an island to get a new vector new vector disappear when get there
if havnt been there yet it say location locked n cant see pic of that island
forward vector stays the way it is now
i like the hologram too ep 4 was nice
if fast travel gets added we wont need a backward vector if solus had a portal system or something like a ufo abduction get dumped in a random location if get abducted by the ufo in the future
wouldnt that be funny get abducted by ufo and spawn with spacejunk in ya bum=south park stick of truth easter egg=is that where they put the last tower part xd(the com tower looks like the dish that comes out of the players butt in south park but much nicer:)
whatever will be will be solus is awesome
just a few ideas
a minimap would probly cause lag since it renders the scene 24 7 to show where you are
minimap not a good idea
too much stuff in the wilson could be annoying too esp since its screen is tiny=stare at wilson and fall down a hole like staring at ya phone while walking down the street n get run over

You are right, that could be a problem. But I think Takashimarus idea is a good one, like janitor's idea of the red vector. I don't always take beans with me because my inventory is always full. I am a more carefully player and I am trying not to forget anything while exploring. So my inventory is always nearly full :P . Taking beans with me would need to much space.

Yeah could work but that will take a while to do. Especially if you can make notes and such. Looking at 2-3 weeks of work at least which we can't manage to do at the moment.

You could leave items behind such as empty cans, or the beacons to mark spots.

I do this, thanks. Take all the time you need!

Hmmm. What about adding the ability to have beacons display a small amount of characters?
For say a short little name?

Yup could work but we don't have any backend for letting people type. It needs some kind of UI in which you can type, but when does it appear? When you walk up to it? When you try to use it? How to do so in VR and on gamepad? Too many questions we can't figure out there.

...that sounds like a cliche ;-)

I could imagine a wilson minimap as a kind of 'sonar scan' which takes a second to scan the area and display a local map. Would make cave exploring more interesting, imo.

I spend enough time looking at wilson for my status as it is already. So adding a minimap to look down on is a good one, I think. Besides. It adds to the atmosphere. Imagine being in a cave which is infested with the dark sharp orb thingies and you can't help but to look down on wilson for guidance to get the hell outta there! BUT you also have to keep on the lookout for the ominous alien type things. *Looking ahead* "♥♥♥♥, was that the way to go?" *Looks down at wilson to check the map* "Yeah, I think it's this way" *Looks up* "♥♥♥♥!" *dies*. Good idea, Methinks. Please add.

Yes, some thrill (more... hahaha) for all of us :P

U know what u could do is what destiny did. U can pull up a static map, doesn't move doesn't turn. Only show geographical map and where all your beacons are placed. But the map doesn't stay on all the time. And u could possible add something like a fog of war too maybe. Like only the islands you have been to or something. Or to make it more annoying like you were saying you didn't want people to constantly look at the map, make it so you have to hold the map button and the map takes over the entire screen with no opacity.
