Playing scavs right now and they're super fun, champions are obscenely OP so good for a lark, and archers in any game are always a favorite.

Hover over a tent to see the amount of goblins inside, you don't need to build anything but mines in the first few rounds as long as there's no more than five goblins, if there are babies you can space out the landmines by one space (as long as there's ten) and while using the mines, hold your money until a decent crop shows up in the shop. I normally go for beans and yams but pumpkins are super OP if you find them, so the beans spread the fertility and the yams spread onto that. There's also an upgrade for beans that makes them radioactive, letting them spread on their own.

With your upgrade you can freely let goblins trample your beans so that you can plant yams or another crop, since you get the money back. If you get any sort of crop that self-spreads, you can let them spread and then intentionally let goblins run through them for free money (since you get 'refunded' money you never actually spent on the crop)

Then by round three or four you should have your shotgunner and mobile home and some sort of crop to make money. Use your mobile homes to funnel enemies into chokepoints on swamps (or on later maps lava and etc).
