Not sure where you are seeing those "about 8 files none of them are the map02.i3d"...
If you follow my instructions (either the nagivation to the folder and double clicking the map02 file, or opening it through the Editor), the Westbridge Hills map gets opened in the Editor.
The file is called "map02.i3d" when they aren't hidden.
It's called "map02" when they are hidden.
(Both of them has the GE icon, regardless of hidden selection)
http://i.imgur.com/E0CQ9sI.jpg (Shows the option unticked, making it show "map02.i3d" as the entire filename)
Step 1
go to the following site
http://gdn.giants-software.com/index.php
at this site you must register to get the latest giants editor download in either 32bit or 64bit
Step 2
This will vary by ppls folder directory
C:computer/programfilex86(i think)/farmingsimulator15/data/and so on
then if you have the giants editor already installed then you should see and GE yellow(orange) icon for the map i3d files. YOu will see a map01.i3d or a map02.i3d files
dbl click on either of those files. If you do not see those files I would say re install the game something got corrupted and you can not have the game running while trying to open those files either it will not work like it would on fs13
Step 3
Watch the GE tutorial video on youtube or where ever so you can figure out the basics of everything.
Step 4
got to a mod site sure some ppl have the original maps on their without being altered if you unsure how to go about doing all the other sites. This is probably the easiest way for the beginners. I am not a modder and I do not think Maiteria is either but we know enough to be able to edit maps and other things.
I think you will be better off getting the map files from a mod site would be your best bet that way you do not alter the game files by accident and mess up the game itself.
Also copy the original file before you attempt just in case things go wrong.
To clarify, as long as you make a backup copy (of the i3d) your fine. If you did not, reverify your files and Steam will download a fresh copy.
Your save is not directly tied to the map i3d your editing. You can change the i3d without fear of wreaking your save. Odd about the cows, they are tracked in an xml.
I think if you will study some of the tutorials and videos available and then ask specific questions we can certainly help you. You can do it!
