Hay bales into silage
How much longer does it take for wrapped hay bales to become silage? Versus dumping the grass into a bioplant silo and letting it ferment there.

They become silage bales immediately after being wrapped. :fs15cow:

Silage changed in patch 1.2. I am not sure how it is currently. It seems its some buggy. Not tryed it myself. However, i think the time is the factor here and i would say its take more time to fill the silage than wrapping theme. Then again, when loading the hay bales it also take some times so i guess its the same time on both. What i sugges is to have alot hay bales storaged and wait for the price to raise on certain times, then you can have x2 income with it. i think its the same for both, no less, no more.

Yea, I thought that the bales unrapped themselves when they become silage. Still new to the game.

just tried selling bales to the bioplant. the gauge said 63XX when I dumped it in. alot concidering the telihandler bucket can only pick up 4500 at a time.

But the money isn't showing up in my daily financhle. so it's hard to say exacly how much the bales are worth (at the time I put it in the bioplant machine) but I am getting ~ around $6000 for them. haha. can't wait for a grate demand now.

Silage bales ferment insantly the second you wrap them. Dumping it and covering it takes 12 in-game hours.

using haybales to make silage is alot of extra work and you waste the hay which you need to make TMR, I prefer using corn to make silage you can make 600 tons silage from field 22 if you plant corn there. then i use field 40 for the hay. just a tip

Can you only wrap round bales? Sorry to go slightly off topic.

Sadly yes,

but after the update, the round bale equement (The baler and auto pickup trailer) is cheaper than just the square baler itself.

But that addition of making silage from the round hay bales is a huge plus. since I don't have cow's yet I'm trying to find a way to make money until my new (non exploit on hard difficulty) farm get's big.

@Syclone nice that you do it on hard! Its pretty nasty to start up..
ScareCrow talked about field 22 and foeld 40. That is a really good advice!
I do that on my Hard mode MP farm as well.
The hay dose seems more usefull because i assume your playing a SP game.
With the corn you need a worker or a friend to help you drive and tip unless you want to use a smaller tipper that fits behind the big krone.

I do have a question. The 6000$ reward for the hay silage bales
Is that comming from hard mode? If it is.. I dont want to know how much it will be on easy.. (*-*)

Yes, only round hay bales.

I read somewhere you can also make chaff from straw, but you need the Easyflow 300 attachment on the Krone Big X to pick it up and it is supposed to turn it into chaff that can be used to make silage..

You should be able to, you can also use the xdisc on regular crops to make chaff

Don't think so, but you can use that attachment to make chaff from unharvested crops. There's no way to make silage out of straw, as it's already dry and won't ferment.

Well it apparently worked in FS13, but I never owned it so I can't confirm.

I'll be giving it a try here soon.

Confirmed, the Easyflow 300 turns straw into chaff.

If you are gping to make silage bales, rather than go through the cut/tedder/windrow process you can download the following mod. http://www.farming-simulator.com/mod.php?lang=en&mod_id=3895&title=fs2015
This will at least take the tedder step out and as you see in the picture you can streamline your silage bale making process. So no need to buy all that fancy expensive equipment to chaff corn for silage unless you really feel the need to. Realistically silage bales are typically made from grass and not hay so the mod is not a "cheat"..
