Mapping keys in game?
Is there a way that you can change key assignments / mapping in game without exiting back to the main menu? It's annoying to map controls, load a game, decide it's not working the way I thought, exit game, map, load, rinse and repeat. Is there a way to do it in the game? Mod or some key or feature I'm missing that allows this?

I did a search, but didn't find anything. Might have just been using terrible keywords.

Pretty sure the only access to key mapping is through the main menu.

No there isn't I'm afraid... I think FS2013 was the same way actually. It is bad design to not be able to modify controls on the fly while in the game instead of being forced back into the main menu to modify keys. But I guess it can't be helped..

I finally just got joy2key and alt-tab over and use that to adjust the mapping. It's actually better, because joy2key can have multiple profiles, so I can switch when I'm using a crane vs a mower or harvester. Since many of the controls share the same mapping, what works well with a crane doesn't always translate real well to a front loader.

I cant invert my mouse, Ive tried with the in game mapping and i changed the inputbindings.xml and it has no effect, any suggestions? I cant play without an inverted y axis

Well, make sure you are editing the inputbindings.xml lthat is in your "My Documents\My Games\Farming Simulator\" and not the one in the main program install directory in the steam folder. If so, here are steps I would recommend.
  1. quit the game, rename the current log.txt file and then restart the game. Alt-tab out and check the log.txt file. It may tell you in there that something isn't right with your input file or maybe a mod is doing something. It's worth it to check.
  2. The second thing is update the inputbindings.xml file when the game is NOT running. It only reads it at startup and if you update then exit the game, you run the risk of it overwriting your changes when you exit.
  3. Be aware that if you don't format the xml 100% correctly the game WILL replace it (without asking) with the default. So, once you get everything fixed, make a backup of that file. I lost about an hour of work when the game just wiped it and replaced it.
  4. Check your mouse drivers and see if they give an option to invert the mouse.
  5. You can edit the settings in the xml file of the vehicles directly, but ... I'd recommend against it. It's a pain editing all those and when a patch comes out you run a likely chance of having it overwritten.
  6. Finally make sure you're changing the controls correctly: For example on this line

    <axis name="AXIS_FRONTLOADER_ARM2" category="VEHICLE" key1="KEY_minus" key2="KEY_equals" key3="" key4="" button="" axis="" device="0" invert="false" mouse="MOUSE_BUTTON_RIGHT" mouseAxis="y" button1="" button2="" visible="true" />

All you need to do is change the invert="false" to invert="true". That's for that particular item. So you'd have to go through the whole file and check for MouseAxis="y" and then change it to invert ="true" on those lines.

In the default file the ones you're looking for should be:

    AXIS_FRONTLOADER_ARM
    AXIS_FRONTLOADER_ARM2
    AXIS_FRONTLOADER_TOOL4
Check all the lines anyway. Hope that helps.
