Does anyone else find using Manure or Slurry a waste of time?
I have been running a farm with 60 cows and I have a lot of Slurry and Manure ready to use, but I find the amount of space I can fertilze even with a full load in the biggest tank or spreader is just tiny compared to the sprayers.

As an example, it took 32,000 litres of Manure and 10,000 litires of Slurry to fertilize field 37 which is quite small. Is this how those materials would usually work?

I find the time to move the materials to fill the tanks and trailers is just not worth the time, effort or money when a sprayer can do more space and require less money to buy all the equipment.

What do you all think?

Can anyone explain how this makes sense or give me tips on the best way to use manure and slurry.

Thanks

I think using them in 2011 was a lot better, but I still use it since its free spread, but seems to be very time consuming. you can hire a worker, but if u do that then you pay them like you would if they r using a fertilizer tank and they always crash it into things and cost your cash.

I am just hoping when they come out with the patch you get more yardage because on the usa map with 400 cows it seems like I cant do much using all my slurry. and the biogas dont last long either

I use slurry and manure. Just because it's, well free and because it adds something more to do (Little red slurry tank is so adorable:)

I have 100 cows and they produce fair amount of both slurry and manure. I use slurry for fields No. 23 and 37. Manure primarily for greenhouses and what's left for field 27.

All "organic" fertilizing I do myself since I actually want to spend all "liquids" and "solids".

Yes it's somewhat time consuming but I don't mind. Although I do hope they'll tweak this a little. Either by increasing slurry/manure production per cow or lowering usage of the same per hectare.

I agree that manure and slurry just do not cover enough ground to be useful. A full trailer of either should be able to cover at least one field, not 1/10th of a field.

This definitely needs tweeking here.

I've always tweaked the capacity and quantity sprayed per second on slurry trailers in FS13 and now FS15 since Giants won't. Realistic or not, I do it simply because it's a pain in the ass otherwise.

At some point your manure bunker and your slurry tank will be full. I'm not certain for sure if full tanks/manure bunkers will make your cows produce less but at that point it's more about manure/slurry management.

Until they make the manure/slurry cover more ground, use it up and use the sprayer/spreader if you run out.

or go into the xml and mod the spreaders to tweak the capacity
or find a ready-built mod that HAS a higher capacity.

I have too much going on to bother with it...it just keeps piling up. I hire workers to fertilize because I have 10 fields going at once, and they bring their own. It's a drop in the bucket, cost wise, to how fast I can turn those fields around.

I find this also. The cost to set yourself up to use the slurry and manure is just not worth it considering how much better the sprayers are.

Ive basically decided to just use the manure and slurry on field 40 which should save me the hassle of moving all the cow poop all over the map.

I just want freakin HUGE trailer I can fill at the pasture adn then haul to my fields so I am not coming back over and over with the sprayer. same for solid.

Until I spray the final sprayer on the field to cover it completely, I generally make patterns first. The manure makes one line in a field, then the slurry spreader makes a line on either side (leaving space between them), then cultivator and seeder, then the sprayer covers most of the field leaving lines between them and the manure/slurry for the dust sprayer, which finally covers the entire field. This way, each time I add fertilizer/manure/slurry, I see exactly how much I cover and so I wont miss any spot by the end. It seems to be a combination of all fertilizers, but that is the only way to spread the manure/slurry around to all your fileds.
