The game need to have your firewall properly configured to allow it or simply, disable your firewall.
Also, you need to open the game port correctly in your router.

all of that has been done and tried

then check that it works: go here: http://www.subnetonline.com/pages/network-tools/online-port-scanner.php
Enter the game host's IP and the game's port, check the box and click Scan Port.

Does it work? If not, go back to your router/firewall's configuration.

i dont think that is host side,if i click on multiplayer then join game what i get is connection to server can not be established. the game was gifted to me so i'm not sure if that is part of the problem or not.

Is it only the host that should do the port forwarding? Or do i have to do it too??

Whose game are you trying to connect to? A friend?
In that case, it is likely an issue on his/her end. Port forwarding is the most likely.

Only the host needs to do port forwarding and, in a few cases, allow connections through the firewall too. For home connections, it's just port forwarding 99% of the time.
On your end, again in 99% of the cases, you don't need to do anything if playing from home. If you were in the remaining 1% you should know what to do, anyway :P

it is a friends server that he just rented. i have 6 other friends that can play. When i start the game and click multi player then the next screen is join game, after that is when i get connection to server can not be established.

yes i have same problem. you cant see any server-list, after click join a game you get this message and cant do anything. you did not see any games created by other players you can not play any multiplayer games - this message comes if you want to create a game and also if you want to join games.

If someone have an idea, please help me too...

3. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
