Also, you need to open the game port correctly in your router.
Enter the game host's IP and the game's port, check the box and click Scan Port.
Does it work? If not, go back to your router/firewall's configuration.
Whose game are you trying to connect to? A friend?
In that case, it is likely an issue on his/her end. Port forwarding is the most likely.
Only the host needs to do port forwarding and, in a few cases, allow connections through the firewall too. For home connections, it's just port forwarding 99% of the time.
On your end, again in 99% of the cases, you don't need to do anything if playing from home. If you were in the remaining 1% you should know what to do, anyway :P

found out my own solution idk wtf it does i was fixing a different problem on my comp
1.Click the Windows Start button.
2. Type Cmd in the Start Search text box and press Ctrl-Shift-Enter (keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator). Click Continue to allow elevation request.
3. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
4. Type netsh int ipv4 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
5. If you use ipv6, type netsh int ipv6 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
did this mult work fine now
