How to Operate the Logging Harvester
Hey guys,

I've been having fun with the logging equipment and thought I'd post a few descriptive screenshots to show how to use the Ponsse Harvester "ScorpionKing".

When I was a logging inspector in Northern Ontario, I saw different types of Harvesters working on clearcutting huge swaths of forests in no time flat with these huge machines.
They are super expensive and have very complex cutting heads on them, so the companies keep them working 24hrs day with highly experienced operators.

Anyways, here are a few screenshots to help you operate the harvester. I have a write up in the captions of each screenshots.

Hey. Is there a certain place where we have to plant trees? As there is no designated area on the map to do it, like there is fields to plant crops. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks! :)

Hey Morgan, actually there are numerous logging sites all ready for you to log in. I'm playing on the new map, not the FS13 USA map, and there are areas near field 40/41, field 34, field 18, and others.
Ahhh. So where there is a big clump of trees? Is that where we can log?

Thanks Warondar :)

Yep, right in there. You'll see piles of firewood around if you're in the right place.

Use left mouse button for up and down with the main arm.
Use right mouse button for extending and moving the second arm.
Use both mouse buttons for closing and turning hook.

Maybe I forgot something, but you will figure it out. The symbols displaying when you do that could be wrong ;)

ah, bingo. i didnt think of using both mouse buttons at the same time...it was driving me crazy.

How to use the chainsaw? I tried it in a logging place, but the key X just trigger the throttle and nothing happens when I try to cut a tree. The F1-menu say X for activating but it seems something more have to be done for the chainsaw to work. I just cant figure it out...

You need to rotate the chainsaw and move around the tree till you see a blue disc, then hold the throttle till you don't see sawdust anymore.

For chainsaw work, the positioning is a bit tricky at times, to get the correct angle and height. Also don't forget you can actually crouch in the game with the CTRL key now, which I just found out earlier. To work the chainsaw you can use the left mouse button or the X key, they both do the same thing.
Just put your blade on the trunk whichever way you want to cut, and the saw will cut at any angle or location along the log which is awesome. Although, I wish they had a way to measure and mark your bucking lengths cause right now it's hard to eyeball it.
Move around, including crouching like I said, until you see a 'blue' circle on the log. Then just throttle up with the X or left mouse button until you see the 'green' circle.
Delimbing the branches off is guess work since you won't see any blue/green circles.
Just power up and slide the bar along the trunk, to get the branches on the sides, and flip 90 to do the branches on top and under.
Pretty long answer, but hope it helps.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Didn't know this - would've made limbing that huge tree I felled last night a lot easier!

Loving the chainsaw, btw. Worth the price of admission all by itself, imho :)

Quick question though - any differences between the 3 chainsaws? I know the game allows you to switch on the fly, so I'm wondering if there's a difference besides graphics?

No, they are all the same. It's more a personal choice and brand preference. I'm a Husqvarna person myself, but Jonsered is also well respected and used in the business. I've actually never seen the 3rd brand from the game.
