Question for after harvesting a field
So I just started this game a couple hours ago and I've got two of my three fields planted, fertilized and ready to go. My question pertains to the very first field that the tour tasks you with harvesting. It's left behind a whole lot of straw that needs to, I assume, be baled. But I lack the tools to do so, and I'm uncertain if baling is something I even need to worry about right now.

I sold one of the low HP tractors I started with for a fertilizer spreader and so far, that's the only purchase I've made. Being new to the game and lacking in funds I'm trying to spend efficiently. Everything in the "baling technology" section is pretty high priced.

Is it possible to just ignore the straw and go ahead and re-plow the field so I can sow it again?

Thanks for the help, any and all whom reply! Here's a screen cap so you know exactly what I'm talking about:

Yeah you can just cultivate straight over the top of it.

Straw is used by the dairy cattle. If they are given straw they increase milk productivity and produce solid manure. Dairy cattle also are more productive with mixed ration which requires hay straw and silage to be mixed together.
I usually do not bother with cattle untill I have expanded my grain production. However you could use the smalll forage wagon, its $27,000. It will pick up straw and grass. Grass can be placed into the silage pits to make silage.
There is a mixed ration mixing station mod that is very handy, you can use the small wagon to fill it up with straw and grass, then silage from the pits.

Therefore it is possible to start dairy farming early in the game, it all about what you want to do, grain farmer, dairy farm, sheep or logger.

There's a 'straw powerplant' mod on Giants site that you can purchase and place that will pay you for the straw you pick up with the forage wagon. Might be considered a small cheat...use your own discretion :)

...the file is an .exe...but it's from Giants...so probably trustworthy. At least I'm still internetting and I installed it months ago.

Awesome information guys, thanks for the tips. :) There's so much to learn with this game. I am playing on Xbox One so mods aren't an option but I'm having a blast so far. Been farming for about 6 hours straight. lol

Get a forage wagon and sell the straw, easy money to cover daily expenses

Straw can be ignored on defaulth map. But if you install soilmod on a harder level map you need that straw to either sell or use it if you go for a cow farm. I use soilmod and its so expensive that i would never ignore the straw simple because i cant afford it:)

Straw isn't very useful until you get cows, where it's great for filler in mixed ration food, or for floor covering to get solid manure. You can get a loading wagon and sell it in the hay barn on your farm, but you won't get much for it.

The bails are so clunky and a pain to move so unless you are working on making MRF (cow food) I just leave it. Too much of a pain to get into the hay shed.
