There is a graphical display of the farm and the fields and you can watch the farm machinery working from a distance but it is mainly a management game.
If that does sound like what you want (or close enough) then look into the courseplay mod, it allows you to automate as little or as much as you want, to the extent of not only having the actual fieldwork of sowing/fertilising/harvesting automated, but all the transfers of vehicles from location to location also handled with a couple of clicks, once you set everything up (which would take some time I expect for a very high level of automation).
it is a bit like Sim Farm, and quite entertaining.
