setting up controller

I have never used a controller for a PC game but i want to for broforce and expendabros. I want to use my xbox controller but I dont know how. can some one help please

^ plug and play is what it sounds like
plug your controller before launching the game and play normally ...
if that did not work go to options and controlls and choose gamepad and edit it
