Thanks for your confirmation it's not possible.
Some of them are night battles but you can easily change them in the editor to be early morning instead. I prefer early morning from night battles as the battle area starts off quite dark and gets brighter the longer the fight goes on.
The longer settings mean more time of inaction while the AI tries to recon then outflank you instead of going straight for the objectives.
I practically spend 90% of my time in the editor for this game because I can pretty much create any type of scenario I wish.
To save a battle as a mission you need to be in the operational phase with an active battle there and then press "Ctrl+S" in the vanilla configuration. Then a new window will pop up to save the battle+give it names. Skirmishes are much simpler and do not offer such options as far as I know.
