RD, RR, TD, AR, MIR? Can someone clarify some of these abbreviations on the operations map?
Had this game forever but I never could figure it out. Well, it seems Graviteam have updated the GUI some since years ago and now I can actually play and enjoy this great game. Thank you for that, Graviteam!

I am trying to understand some of these abbreviations. I wonder if there is a guide anywhere on the internet?

I'd guess "TD" = tank division. "R" might be recon? So "RR" = recon regiment? "RD" is recon division? Is that a thing? AR is artillery regiment, I'd guess. "MIR" = I have no idea. Maybe "something" infantry regiment.

Thanks for any help. Having fun with this so far.

RR= rifle regiment used by the soviets instead of infantry

M= motorized or mechanized they will have some sort of transport such as trucks for motorized and Apc’s for mechanized

Thank you, that makes sense.

All of these (and more) are in the game manual (pages 81 through 83). The manual is in <game folder>\docs\support
No need to scour internet ;)

MIR is Mobile infantry regiment

One caveat with the convention GT uses: they went for generic names that sound reasonable in English, unlike say Eugen in their steel division who decided so spell out foreign designation in English letters,

Whatever is provided in the manual is more than sufficient to understand what’s going on.

But there is always fun to be had in discovering why certain formation types were referred to in a very specific way. Why are US tank units called “Armored something” or why after certain point German “Infantry” became “Grenadiers” or what is the difference between “Motor-rifle” and “Motorized rifle” battalions.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

oh right was that because they usually had more motorized assets like spgs and tanks attached to them?

This is one of the cases that I mentioned- GT found a reasonable common designation that could be used for multiple similar formations: on Wehrmacht side this covers “Panzergrenadier-Regiment”, it’s earlier designation “ Schützen-Regiment” as well as “Infanterie-Regiment (mot)”; for US - “Armored Infantry Regiment” and I don’t believe we have any in the game for RKKA. There are two Soviet “MR” (in furtive spring), they are somewhat unusual, part of “34-я мотострелковая бригада”, they are designated as either “мотострелковый полк” (motor-rifle regiment) or “мотоциклетный полк” (motorcycle regiment) -thus “MR” in game.

Edit: I am wrong about the US designation in game, GT uses AIR, not MIR

New abbreviations in the new DLC, not listed in the manual. ABD and ABRR. This is an airborne unit.

No, because they can drive on trucks and most likely have artillery, which is transported by trucks.

This is mostly unimportant, in fact, these are already ordinary rifle regiments (in the last DLC).
