Red Army topographic maps, which were produced for defense and economic planning:

- They mostly were produced before the war in the 1930s (but were still published in the 1940s during the war), so they do not necessarily show, how the areas were at the time of the war. Just look at the respective entry, to see, when a map was first published.

- The maps are 1:50.000, so the detail on the in-game maps (1:25.000) is a lot higher too. There are no individual houses, and there is less detail when it comes to the course of roads, rivers etc. These elements are often simplified in the 1:50.000 maps.

- The maps give a good overview: You can see the surrounding areas and locations that are mentioned in the "Historical Background" descriptions of the operations. Like, for example Novaya Vodolaga in the case of the operations around Bulakhi. Or the area between Karbusel and Vinyagolovo.

- Last but not least: Russian maps are beautiful.

2. Maps for GT Operations:

- Karbusel (Карбусель):

- Vinyagolovo (Виняголово):

- Bulakhi (Булахи):

Info:

- 1:50.000 maps for other GT locations are not yet digitized/uploaded.

- The north edge of the Vinyagolovo map directly connects to the Karbusel map!

- If you want to download these maps, you just have to use the "Download GeoTIFF" links. The maps have a very high resolution of up to 12K, so the size is about 300MB each. The quality, if printed, should be very good. On a 1080p screen they are best viewed at 25%.

- All maps are in the public domain.

3. Map Symbols and Locations

Map symbols (originally posted by adamos25); the in-game maps use the exact same symbology:

If you also have some links for maps or related things - please post! :)

p.s. I will update this thread, if new maps are digitized or appear elsewhere.

The root "лаг" is weird. Being a Russian speaker, I never heard of it, so I looked it up and apparently it means "joist". New Waterjoist? Makes no sense to me, but it could be a Ukranian word or it may be a proper noun with no apparent meaning.

Accurate translation for "Водолага" = "Master of pure water".

The name comes from the Vodolaga River.
