got both.

Played combat mission since 2001.

But i prefer gt:mius front: more immersive and realistic with a good operationnal layer.

gt:mius is a very active game with a lot of updates to improve the game.

Both but Combat Mission - more table top abstraction model vs Mius Fronts - more simulation. At least how I see it. Both a great in their own right.
Ok thanks

One of those empty your wallet more than the other however. Due to being a company of the same size as the other but in a richer country.

I am primarly looking for game quality and do not care that much on how big the impact on my wallet is.

I personally enjoy Mius-Front more. But Graviteam Operation Star is also very nice. More content and also modern conflicts, like afghan-soviet and the angolan conflict. If you dont care about money, get them all. Just a little tip, while the steamsale, you get all dlc mostly reduced from 15 to 3 euros. have fun

Ah and dont forget to install the available soundmods and uniform-mods, if you care about immersion. Makes it much nicer and more authentic looking.. And its free!
Thanks Klaubautermann, I got Combat Mission now but will also get Star and Mius soon

I deleted my earlier comment because they said it best, i just lean towards simulation. As for operation Star i'd make sure you like Mius-Front and Tank Warfare Tunisia before trying it. Star's more of the same but with less polish due to age. The post ww2 conflict DLC is a cool thought, but they are kind of poor quality. The Angola conflict descriptions are not translated to English very well and have poor new sound assets. The 1969 conflict has very little content. I haven't played the fictional Iran Invades Soviet Occupied Afghanistan campaign, so that one might be fine.

I've been playing CM since 2000, but have both recent GT games, Steel Fury, and SABOW. If you want infantry squad level tactics, Combat Mission wins hands down. Infantry seem like cannon fodder to me in all the GT games. Tank modeling is better in MIUS (animations, movement is more realistic), but sound requires mods in both games IMO.

CM also has far more intuitive support menus (i.e. arty and air). I'd also give CM the edge in UI and for being easier to get into quickly. CM has more set scenarios and straightforward campaigns. CM also has far more intuitive support menus (i.e. arty and air). This is the number one reason holding me back from playing more GT. The campaigns in GT while dynamic, tend to play as skirmish battles all the time, and you can't just load one up and have at it. I also run into too many where I have to hunt down the enemy, even though they're supposed to be attacking.

CM has however the worst quick battle unit selection I've ever seen . Have to pick a battalion first and then whittle forces down from there. There's also a game-crashing bug when you pick a certain force mix that the developers have been ignoring for years.

CM requires a lot of tedious placement of units, but so does GT. The realistic feel of the battlefields in GT is definitely better than CM, which is really showing it's age there. I would say get both really. Try the demos for the CM games. The Italian theatre demo is particularly good. The GT games when on sale are a steal. CM games never go on sale.

I got some of the Combat Mission4.0 games, godamn I can´t stop and my wallet is bleeding fast haha. This fidelity and unit self preservation, simply awesome. Just playing the campaigns at the moment.

I find the enemy AI in Mius to be pretty smart. They have surrounded me, flanked me, full on assaulted me. I haven't played every mission on every side though. The battle settings make a big difference. 1 hour usually ends right when a major battle is kicking off into full swing. The battles can get pretty crazy and huge; but you need all reinforcements involved and 2 - 3 hr battles. The huge battles with like 28 platoons are fun, but take forever. I only get through a battle or maybe a whole turn in a play session (2-5hrs).

CM is OK but the dumb as a rock scripted (and therefore predictable and repetitive) AI and insane pricing policy (like paying for each patch) rules it out for most sensible players.

CM stands still while Graviteam keeps moving forwards, CM is a fun little squad skirmish game stuck in the early 2000's with '''''campaigns''''' that are really just a collection of scripted scenarios, whereas this is an intense battalion level battlefield simulator on an entirely different scale that is forever being upgraded and improved, with a dynamic flowing campaign system and smart behavioural based AI which manages to deliver a different experience each time you play, of course you need more patience and dare I say mental fortitude to master Mius.

Yeah in the older games I remember the AI having its issues but in the newer ones they give you a really hard time in order to get a victory. They are improving for sure and I hope to see further work invested into this.

I didn´t touch that many of the batallion/regiment sized scenarios as oh boy overextend my command capabilites but when I grew seasoned I want to play the Amiens tonight campaign or the Lions of Carpi.... forgot its name, that also utilizes a complete regiment at once. Unbelieveable this unit sizes haha.

Yes, you must be much smarter than the rest of us because you like Graviteam games better. Yikes. Each game has strengths and weaknesses. Not all of us have the time to play 3 hour long skirmishes (GT campaigns) because we have lives. CM fits the bill for those times, and as I said is a far superior game for infantry tactics. There is also the endless replayability of multiplayer in CM that GT doesn't have. Not everyone has the 'mental fortitude' however to outwit a human opponent...
