Played combat mission since 2001.
But i prefer gt:mius front: more immersive and realistic with a good operationnal layer.
gt:mius is a very active game with a lot of updates to improve the game.
CM also has far more intuitive support menus (i.e. arty and air). I'd also give CM the edge in UI and for being easier to get into quickly. CM has more set scenarios and straightforward campaigns. CM also has far more intuitive support menus (i.e. arty and air). This is the number one reason holding me back from playing more GT. The campaigns in GT while dynamic, tend to play as skirmish battles all the time, and you can't just load one up and have at it. I also run into too many where I have to hunt down the enemy, even though they're supposed to be attacking.
CM has however the worst quick battle unit selection I've ever seen . Have to pick a battalion first and then whittle forces down from there. There's also a game-crashing bug when you pick a certain force mix that the developers have been ignoring for years.
CM requires a lot of tedious placement of units, but so does GT. The realistic feel of the battlefields in GT is definitely better than CM, which is really showing it's age there. I would say get both really. Try the demos for the CM games. The Italian theatre demo is particularly good. The GT games when on sale are a steal. CM games never go on sale.
CM stands still while Graviteam keeps moving forwards, CM is a fun little squad skirmish game stuck in the early 2000's with '''''campaigns''''' that are really just a collection of scripted scenarios, whereas this is an intense battalion level battlefield simulator on an entirely different scale that is forever being upgraded and improved, with a dynamic flowing campaign system and smart behavioural based AI which manages to deliver a different experience each time you play, of course you need more patience and dare I say mental fortitude to master Mius.
I didn´t touch that many of the batallion/regiment sized scenarios as oh boy overextend my command capabilites but when I grew seasoned I want to play the Amiens tonight campaign or the Lions of Carpi.... forgot its name, that also utilizes a complete regiment at once. Unbelieveable this unit sizes haha.
Yes, you must be much smarter than the rest of us because you like Graviteam games better. Yikes. Each game has strengths and weaknesses. Not all of us have the time to play 3 hour long skirmishes (GT campaigns) because we have lives. CM fits the bill for those times, and as I said is a far superior game for infantry tactics. There is also the endless replayability of multiplayer in CM that GT doesn't have. Not everyone has the 'mental fortitude' however to outwit a human opponent...
