Graviteam Tactics: Mius-Front
Generation War (German: Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter)
Who has seen this and is it accurate and worth watching?

Any other WW2 films/series out there worth watching that are not on the usual Hollywood list, please comment.

I just started watching the German 1993 film, Stalingrad. Never seen it before. Leider is mein Deutsch nicht genug gut!

Thanks.

Worth watching, you plunged in into a world of young men and women who found themselves in a war where they can die any minute, no matter by bullets or by your own friends or goverment, and experienced atrocities along the way.

It is intense, and of course full of debate. The movie depicts the religious issue, notably the purge of people living in Eastern Europe.

Other movies.. Das boot, Iron Cross. Some classics. Not bad.

Other (very old) movies, which are still worth watching:

"Die Brücke" (1959), about indoctrination of the youth and the last days of WWII/the meaningless german defense.

"Im Westen nichts neues" (1979), WWI madness of the Westfront.

The movies are heavy on the traumatic experience of the world wars.

I would also recommend "Das Boot". There are some different versions: the longer the version the better (about 5h the longest). The short version is not good, it has just the "action scenes"; the quieter, more reflective, atmospheric scenes are in the longer versions...

I watched "Stalingrad" more than 20 years ago, maybe its time to watch it again...

My favorite war movie is "Paths of Glory" from Kubrick. Good cinematography is the most important aspect for me when it comes to a movie and I "adore" the films from Ingmar Bergman, Kurosawa and Tarkowski. The WW2 movie "Ivan's Childhood" from Tarkowski was called "the most lyrical war movie ever made". All of Tarkovskis films are on Mosfilms YT channel (restored, in 1080p, free, with subtitles), and many other Soviet WW2 movies.

Some of the ones I watched (years ago) had a lot of original equipment and I remember one movie: they were firing live bullets (with tracers) over the actors’ heads to make some low light battle scenes look more realistic. Must have been very stressful for the actors...
Mosfilms yes. Take a look on Star Media as well, they got lot of ww2 series. SMERSH(Spies must Die), theres a series about Soviet female night fighters, too many to list.

They did this in "Come and See". One of the best warfilms of all time imo. You ever see it?

Yes, it was in "Come and See".

I did not mention it on purpose: I would never recommend this film to anyone, because it is absolutely disturbing. And I would never watch it again, but the ending scene, when they are marching into the dark forest, with the Lacrimosa from Mozarts Requiem in the background, is breathtaking...

Edit: I understand of course why many people and critics say that it is "one of the greatest war films of all time", I just did not want to recommend something that disturbing. Another citation: "Properly considered one of the most powerful and disturbing war movies ever made".

Here are some of my favorite WWII films. I take into account production value along with historical accuracy. With all these films, always select the longest version with subtitles. English dubs are retarded.

Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter (yes watch it!)
---
Band of Brothers (series)
The Pacific (series)

^^^ these are some of the only American made depictions of WWII combat I can actually stand to watch without austically sperging out.
---
Talvisota (1989) - a classic depicting the brutal Winter War. No CGI! they actually blow up forests! Hell yeah!
---
Unknown Soldier (2017) - My absolute FAVORITE newer war film. It follows Finnish soldiers during the Continuation War. The sound design is 11/10.
---
Tali-Ihantala 1944 (2007) - An insane amount of historical accuracy went into this film. And real Stug III f/8's were used, "tulta!"
---
Stalingrad (1993) - a classic. not the most realistic effects and some corny acting, but better than saving Ryan's Privates or the Russian CGI-fest that came out in 2013.
---
Das Boot (1981) - THE classic. If you watch the shorter or english dubbed version of this your mother will die in her sleep! Don't do it...
---
Cross of Iron (1977) - follows a platoon on the ost front. old but good! memorable characters, no cgi, real t-34s ect ect...
---
The Eternal Zero (2013) - a unique film showing Japanese perspective of Kamikaze pilots. I'd say this has to be one of the more emotionally moving films I have ever watched. Some people experience weakness leaving the body when they watch this, they call it "crying" I guess. I've never done it though.
---
Letters From Iwo Jima (2006) - I haven't watched this in ages but I remember it being good, report back!
---
Downfall (2004) - Why am I attracted to Frau Goebbels? :D
Here is a clip from Tali-Ihantala 1944 (2007). Stug III is my favorite AFV of WWII so I get pretty hyped when I watch this engagement....not every day you get to see inside of a Stug like this.

IMHO "shows" like Unsere Mutter und Fatter, Das Boot or Alexander Nevsky are well done regarding visual and story telling aspects side but...
You can watch them as science fiction movies with the "historical version" background and cannot be treated as sources of historical knowledge.
I wish people to watch from a distance and read historical sources from different sides and build Their own opinion upon that, not upon a single movie or tv series.
Even live black and white footage from real battles or military operations were edited with propaganda intention in history many times.
So seek for the truth...

The problem with "War movies" is they are political. The biggest problem with war movies is they are telling far more about politics of modern times (about the times they were made) than about the politics from past times they are trying to describe.
