Black Screen or Call Stack Error

Some of you are experiencing a black screen at startup or a call stack error. We are unable to reproduce this issue in-house so WE NEED YOUR HELP. First off make sure the game has been updated through Steam. 2nd, make sure you ping our support team at support.aspyr.com and send them your DXDiag and any other system info you have. Thus far we have only 6 support requests, but there are at least 2 dozen of you just on this forum seeing this issue.

There has to be some common denomenator with those experiencing the issue, and we need data in order to find it. It could be ANYTHING causing this issue...software, hardware, file structure, firewall configuration, GPU driver...ANYTHING.

Please ping our support team with as many details as possible if you are experiencing this issue. We cant fix what we cant see.

UPDATE 02/12: We finally replicated the issue in QA today.

It's appears to be related to the .ini file missing/corrupted from game's folder. This could be caused by the ini files being altered in some way, either manually or somehow a problem in the launching process and the Steam overlay.

Our current workaround:

Right click Fahrenheit from the Steam Library menu and select Properties. Under the Local Files tab, select Browse Local Files. Delete the Fahrenheit.ini file then verify the game cache integrity.

To do that, right click (ctrl+click) Fahrenheit: IPR from the Steam Library menu and select Properties. Under the Local Files tab, select Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Once that completes, relaunch the game.​

Please report back here with results!

If this does not work for you, its then very likey that something else is altering your INI files (assuming that you havent altered them yourself). This could be ANY other program installed on your comp, so please give us as much data as possible so that we can find the common denominator.

This game conflicts with Aero. Go into properties of Fahrenheit.exe and check "Disable desktop composition".

After long reading on forum. One thing helped me with black screen and freezes. I was able to finish the game from start to finish with just one crash due to unknown reasons as usual but with NO STEAM OVERLAY.

The "No Steam Overlay" thing worked for me. No black screens, no freezes, just one crash and I sent the report but I guess it is not gonna get fixed, cause its random as hell according to devs and they can't replicate this error.

Then, I read this post, I deleted the .ini file, I checked the integrity and when I run again the game, I only saw 1 second of video with, I think, a logo and after I had the black screen error again.

What data do you need?

My solution I've found is to disable the steam overaly and as soon as the game launches Spam enter until you get to the main menu, an odd solution but it has worked for me thus far

I have tried it but the result was the same, a black screen. However, thank you so much!!!

The only thing that I think that I did not say is that I can hear the music.

I also had this problem. Also running a dual monitor setup, and had difficulties to start the game.
The thing that did me the trick, that I closed the playfire client, which was running in the background. After restarting the game, I had to hit space, but after it finally started with French menu, but I was able to change it in the options menu.
I don't know if it helps others, but it worth of a shoot.

Je suis déçu de mon achat. Je possède depuis des mois le jeu et il ne fonctionne toujours pas. Aucun patch créé depuis. C'est illogique!

I am disappointed by my purchase. I possess for months the game(set,play) and it does not still work. No patch created since. It is illogical!

Thank you, I tried but it does not function me. I think that maybe, the main menu is trying to send a bigger resolution than 1920*1080 and for this reason the monitor show me the black screen with the message unsupported.

Yes, you may be right about this, but you will need to find out why the game is doing this and why your video card doesn't support the resolution. I found I had issues when I allowed the video card to take over with enhanced resolution settings. When I turned that off and allowed Windows its own native resolution list, everything went back to normal.

I think that the problem isn't of my card, because other games work without any problem. I think that the game tries to set by default an incorrect resolution in the main menu, exactly, a different resolution, exactly bigger than I have in the desktop.
