Black Screen or Call Stack Error
Some of you are experiencing a black screen at startup or a call stack error. We are unable to reproduce this issue in-house so WE NEED YOUR HELP. First off make sure the game has been updated through Steam. 2nd, make sure you ping our support team at support.aspyr.com and send them your DXDiag and any other system info you have. Thus far we have only 6 support requests, but there are at least 2 dozen of you just on this forum seeing this issue.

There has to be some common denomenator with those experiencing the issue, and we need data in order to find it. It could be ANYTHING causing this issue...software, hardware, file structure, firewall configuration, GPU driver...ANYTHING.

Please ping our support team with as many details as possible if you are experiencing this issue. We cant fix what we cant see.

UPDATE 02/12: We finally replicated the issue in QA today.

It's appears to be related to the .ini file missing/corrupted from game's folder. This could be caused by the ini files being altered in some way, either manually or somehow a problem in the launching process and the Steam overlay.

Our current workaround:

Right click Fahrenheit from the Steam Library menu and select Properties. Under the Local Files tab, select Browse Local Files. Delete the Fahrenheit.ini file then verify the game cache integrity.

To do that, right click (ctrl+click) Fahrenheit: IPR from the Steam Library menu and select Properties. Under the Local Files tab, select Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Once that completes, relaunch the game.

Please report back here with results!

If this does not work for you, its then very likey that something else is altering your INI files (assuming that you havent altered them yourself). This could be ANY other program installed on your comp, so please give us as much data as possible so that we can find the common denominator.

It's the AMD Gaming Evolved A.K.A. Raptr application. If you close it, the game runs just fine!
Damn! That was problem with Dungeon Siege, also.

Yep, this is our first suggestion for folks that call in to support. We have the game "ignore" most of these programs, but clearly there are a few that we have missed.

Okay so I was having the DX9 Error and having to ignore it. but then I had to restart the game everytime I wanted to do an action in the menu due to a crash. Dxtory seemed to cause it. Turning it off seems to correct these issues. I will repost if I have any more information.

Hello, I'm having black screen issue when launching the game in fullscreen mode on my Surface Pro 3, my PC stops to respond and I have to force reboot. The game always works when started in windowed mode, but each time I try Alt + Enter to enter in fullscreen mode, it crashes my PC again, independently of the resolution I set. I've tried many solutions, compatibility modes, delete the saves folder, but the launcher restores it before the game launchs, delete Farenheit.ini file and check intergrity of the game files in Steam app, F9 to deactivate HD textures in the game...

It appears that I have the same issue with ZDoom or GZDoom, the source ports for Doom 2, but I can't launch them in windowed mode (or do not know how to do). What I don't understand is that the game worked perfectly before on my device, and Doom 2 with ZDoom also, but I had a trouble with it and had to send it to Microsoft, they sent me a new one, so I reinstalled Steam and the games, and now I have these troubles.

Thanks for help

Problem resolved ! :)

I've contacted Aspyr's support, and they finished to give me these steps that I've followed, and I don't know wich one, but it worked for me, and now Farenheit runs perfectly in fullscreen on my device, and GZDoom too ! :)

Please disconnect all bluetooth and USB devices besides your keyboard and mouse from your PC and restart your computer.

Then, click the 'START' (Windows symbol) from the bottom left corner of your screen and type in %temp%, then press Enter.
Clear out all of the contents from that folder.

Next, press ctrl+alt+del to open your Task Manager. Open the Processes tab and end all processes that are not Windows required besides Steam.

Then, right click Fahrenheit from the Steam Library menu and select Properties. Under the Local Files tab, select Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Once that completes, relaunch the game.

Also, double check that you're running the live version of Steam and not a beta installation as this has caused issues with other titles.

I don't know if that help but:
1) I deleted my saves folder
2) disabled the steam overlay [or any other client like Raptr (because it conflict with many games)] and
3) DISABLED!! Steam Cloud Saves
and it finally works for me!

I got a black screen and had to ctrl + tab to close the process, was greeted with a message that my card isn't DX9 compliant then received the Call Stack Error. Am trying the workaround now.

Problem still persists. If I choose windowed mode and launch, will still get a black screen followed by the error message. If I close the error message, window will resize and then game will start with default settings (French language)

(brocken englich version below)

Hallo Zusammen,

Volker

Hello everybody,

here again a work-around, for the case that others still have problems with the game.

I also got a black screen at the start of the game and that's it.
With starting the taskmanager and coming back to the desktop I have seen that there is another second (white) window from the Quantic Dream Tool, which gave out a lot of call stack error messages. You cannot close that window and (because of its height)
it was not completely shown.
Only when I had chosen a higher (non-native) resolution, re-started the game and wait
for the black screen, I could switch with ALT-TAB to the white window of Quantic Dream.
Now I saw that there are three buttons below (Cancel, Repeat and Ignore).
When you press the ignore button, you finally get into the game.
Since you now this, you can do the whole procedure without higher resolution.
When the black screen appears, switch with ALT-TAB to the white window with the
call stack error messages, get it active and press the i-key to activate the ignore button,
then the game should start.
I hope it helps.
I still opened a ticket at the software manufacturer.

Greetings
Volker

I finally got the game to work, maybe you will too if you follow these steps to the letter:

1. Deleted the Fahrenheit.ini file
Right click Fahrenheit from the Steam Library menu and select Properties. Under the Local Files tab, select Browse Local Files. Delete the Fahrenheit.ini file then verify the game cache integrity.

2. Verify Integrity of Game Cache
right click (ctrl+click) Fahrenheit: IPR from the Steam Library menu and select Properties. Under the Local Files tab, select Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

3. turned off the steam overlay
Right click on the game, properties > general > Turn off checkbox enable the steam overlay while in game

4. Then turned off the steam cloud and
Right click on the game, properties > updates > turn off checkbox at enable steam cloud synchronicasion

5. Then at the first popup wait for it to load, chose options > game settings > Full screen.

6. press play, the screen with 2 logo's appear

7. Now you will get that black screen again but with a mouse cursor

8. Press Enter on the keyboard.

The game should work now. Hope this fix works for you too.

This solution worked, finally after so many years I can play it now. Thanks!

Okay I've made sure I've updated my DirectX and Graphics card drivers. I've disabed my second screen, I deleted the ini and saved games like another user said they had done, got it back via steam, disabled the overlay and at first it didnt seem to be working too well, but then it went ahead and selected French for me, but its a fairly easy change to making a profile, going to options and then selecting English. Will try to run with a 2nd screen now (if I have to disable it everytime, thats ok its not the only game I've had to do it in the past).

Bit annoying but It's PC gaming and instead of crying how the devs suck, I'm getting my moneys worth and trying every little thing possible to get this game running (or any game really). There are consoles that can lower your chance of any issues playing games. Perhaps I'm just use to it, as its been happening since the 90s anyways.

I've also read having illegal characters in your screenname (like what you call yourself on steam, not steam account) can screw around with saves, but change your name and you lock yourself out of your old saves (unless this is no longer an issue).

Having 2 screens (or more I assume) causes some issues, isnt too hard to disable and enable after playing the game for AMD or Nvidia cards.

Also Dev/whoever wants/needs my PC specs they are

Intel i5 2500K 3.3GHz
AMD Radeon 7870
8GB Ram
Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 64bit
Playing the game @ 1920x1080

Edit: Works with 2 screens fine so far, just did the tutorial though it put everything in French again, but the menu and such was all English when I signed in? No biggie tbh

BACON YOUR AN IDIOT pc or console IT SHOULD WORK
I WANT MY MONEY BACK AND I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER OF THERE GAMES AGAIN IF THIS GAME DOESNT WORK
Huntn Nov 12, 2017 @ 7:01pm
Work around does not work. Removed ini, verified files, 1 file had to be reacquired. I assume it was the ini file I removed?I submitted Diag.tex just now. Game unplayable as is. BTW, I have no idea what version of Windows 10 I'm using as it asked for in the form at aspire. I have Windows 10 Home, V1703, OS Build 15063.674, not 10.10, or 10.11, did not see anything like that. 64 bit.
