How do I upgrade my health?
Whenever I play at hard or Haraikiri mode, I die too fast. Is there any way to upgrade my health/life?

Some styles have an ability called toughness, which reduces the amount of damage you take by 25%, 50%, or 75%. You can also eat a carrot to double defense temporarily, or keep some medicine with you to auto restore life when you die.

There are still moves that will 1 shot you regardless of what kind of Toughness skill you have even Expert. For these, your only way of surviving them is sidestepping or medicine reserves. Most of them you can see from a mile away like Kotobuki's explosive aura move. Toughness only prevents basic strong attacks from 1 shotting you in Harakiri.

i wondered the same not in this game
(they even show your health as 1000 still but you can't upgrade it)
They expand almost every aspect of the game but then remove health upgrading, they could of added leveling up for health stats.
New gen sequals always have trade offs.
That HUD too.... i hope someone mods the old HUD in from WOTS 1-3 that shows your durability as well (now it like MGS and all about stamina).

I think it's much more balanced and for the better. No more tanking hits like in the previous WotS and actually more skill based. You need to have more sense timing sidestepping attacks or else you get punished. Like it's not realistic if your samurai gets sliced 20+ times and not die.... :P

You can store health on you and have 75% damage reduction styles that's WAY more OP.

Doesnt help much on Harakiri. You cant take more than 3-5 hits with it and some moves will 1 shot you regardless.

Wow nevermind i'll make sure to stay clear until i'm ready.
(i guess that's why you can store health on you then)

i never realized the importance of medicines, restaurant foods, and having a custom style until I hit Harakiri. Kinda brutal in that mode if you arent well equipped and ready.

I was able to clear Harakiri mode several times before i made my own style, even then since it's dual arms, it only has intermediate toughen. But atleast i can block attacks without my guard being broken :D

I use Kasshin Iai for the most part on Harakiri and it was very helpful. The stance is way too overpowered and has amazing reach.

When you add toughness to some expert defense vs a specific style you get pretty much god-mode, it's kind of sad to see Sensei's special attack doing like 5% damage on hard.

Haven't tried Harakiri mode yet but even on medium, without toughness you'll get 1-shot by heavy attacks from many sidequest enemies.

Cause the sidequest missions scale differently.

Yeah, I remember the pains of underestimating Normal difficulty on my first playthrough. Constant 1 shot kills left and right until I decided to go on Easy first to get better weapon and styles. I tend to do the hardest or second hardest difficulty whenever I play a game for the first time. Obviously the degree of difficulty in this game is quite high if this is your first WotS game and you're unfamiliar with the mechanics.

Theres no need for higher health pools. on harder diffuclties the onyl time you would ever die it a by getting 1 shot, which means very little since a x3 big shot weapon pretty much clear harikari like easy.

Maybe so, but it's also not realistic that enemies require to be sliced 20+ times before they croak. To add insult to injury, their weapons are crap while you're forced to invest an unreal amount of time, effort and funds into crafting the weapon of the gods just to stay competitive.

I think the rewards for clearing the higher difficulty enemies are undercutting it heavily.
