To bring the M2 Revolver to 500 damage you will need ~45 upgrades, which means either ~42x the best steel or hundreds of the others.
Because every heavy attack is unbreakable, the light combo dealing immense damage and back>forth>heavy being just amazing on Ulster Gun Arts, revolvers are on the side of the stronger weapons in the game, aside them breaking after 5 seconds.
However, since you can't slap Big Shot on firearms, fights on hard and higher will always take a while, not even talking about dojo fights.
So yeah, it takes some effort. But due to the damage limit, it's somehow recommended to max a katana/style first.
And I wasn't planning on russian roulette, I like the one where you check the cylinder then just unload a bunch of shots.
