Very little outside of the setting.

Though Harakiri mode will one shot you if you're not prepared...

I'd say directional input based combat systems are quite a common thing. The blocking is better though, that's for sure.

no i cannot really say that. Bushido Blade for its time had a very serious setting. Besides you had no energy bar and there were many chances you you could die by a single slash, lose the functionality of one of your arms or legs or moving slower. Storywise it was also shorter but somewhat mysterious. BB is still a golden ps 1 pearl which never found its alike on any of the new consoles. Also Bushido Blade did not offer a lot content, the game was fun to spend tons of hours on. On Way of the Samurai you spend spent that much time and also unlock a lot of hidden stuff, you have way more charakters to interact and change the course of the story, you can create your own char and you are also surrounded by many ppl while in BB you where the lonely wolf somehow.

Not really. The Bushido Blade games are fighting games about Samurai set in present day with one hit kill mechanics, not to mention BB's art direction isn't similar to WOTS at all, ie it doesn't visually look similar either.

Yeah for the longest time I wanted somebody to make another game like Bushido Blade. So many things that could be done, and with today's snazzy graphics.

the ruined it when they released Bushido Blade 2. After that, the team actually splitt and part of them produced titles as Kengo Master of Bushido, Sword of the Samurai, Kengo Zero and one title i cant recall yet. Anyway i dont believe there is actually space for another Bushido Blade cause as simple and fun as it was it lacked content for nowadays standards. If you really fell for the story, the gameplay you could even spent hundreds of hours in training mode. But its not that simple anymore nowdays to get the audience for it, since costumers are pretty spoiled. I think if one likes Samurai games the Sword of Samurai or Yakuza Kenzan/ Ishin titles are great. Also can recommend Shogun Total War 2 if one likes Simulation of wars and trade or actually the Onimusha or Genji Series for the good old PS2 if you like tales and monsters and some action combat. I actually wonder how chances are that Acquire might produce a way of the samurai 5 title.

Well I thought Bushido Blade 2 was cool....I remember Kengo Master of Bushido, they left the old formula for lifebars and it just wasn't that good of a game IMO. The only part I like was the bleeding system.

I always thought there's a lot of potential in a sword fighting game where you can possibly die from just one good hit.
Actually the Kengo Series kept that option alive, there where certain slashes you could empty out all of the life bar with a single cut but that feature was rare in use. They focused more on development of skills and actually creating your own combo attacks from different stances. BB however is a good example for games, that have basicly a minimum of content but maxed out fun in gameplay. Graphics werent too bad for its time as well.

Hmm, yeah I do remember that option...but the core gameplay still was slashing lifebars really.

I could envision a current generation game with snazzy graphics where you have a possible one hit kill, glancing blows that give penalties, and a bleeding system too. With snazzy characters, and custom characters too.

What chanbara moments one could have where thru skill you take out multiple guys with the danger of one hit getting you. :D
Even the soundtracks matched perfectly with the atmosphere. Music is another aspect of games that have somehow changed totally. Fighting games go for some electro beats while the ones with Japanese themes do might have some exotic flair, still BB had one of the best soundtracks in entire gaming history. Wots in fact can keep up with the ambience as well. There are more calming moments ofc when you walk through town and stuff but this is still gotten rare these days. Even in other genres music in most cases got a little soulless

I'd be inclined to say Kiai Resonance is more like Bushido Blade than any Way of the Samurai game ever tries to be. They do have one-hit-kill mode, but it doesn't feel like the game was balanced around that.

Kiai Resonance is a side-scrolling fighting game with 2D graphics and only 1-dimensional movement. And it has no story (although the challenges have something like progression as you work through them). And it still has more of the feel of Bushido Blade than another game with similar controls.
