Hidden summons?
I have played the original FF2 for SNES (multiple times, once through to the end) FF4 on the Sony PS1 (multiple times, one almost to the end) and now this version on Steam; and I have NEVER had any of the 'hidden' summons (i.e. Imp/Goblin, Cocatrice, Bomb, etc.) drop for me.

I've played these various different versions of this game over the last 25 years and never even seen these drop ONCE! The supposed 0.4% drop rate dosen't even come close to explaining this inconsistency in MY games! :madelf:

Has anyone else had this happen to them, or am I alone in my extraordinary lack of luck?

Well, I have a macro set up on my keyboard for 'farming', so I'm going to let it run for a while and see what I get.

Thank you all for listening to the ranting of ant un-lucky gamer!

Yeah in XIII they actually focus on all the characters pretty equally. In the PSX era FF games around 50-70% of the cast had barely any lines.

on average for me it was a 999 stack and little bit more work i would get a summons, sept the bomb that one took forever for me random encounters on themoon but got it, you will get it dont give up!

it took about a week of grinding but i now got all the summons & all the tail items. now i'm never doing that again. the goblin one took easy over 50% of the work.. guess i gott lucky with all the others. the bomb dropped when i was exploring the moon for example. ^^
now i'm so sick of this game im at least gonna finnish Interlude & After Years before i start my second go around for the bestiary & augment completion :P

Nice !
Is interlude included in After Years ?

jrpg games are easy enough, why use a booster (CHEAT) to get MAX HP, MAX DMG, MAX GIL, MAX LEVELS etc ?'

Whats the point of playing lol, i mean leveling is a huge part of the gameplay and they know that and still focus ridiculously on that.
Thats why the ditched the actual storylines and made battle oriented games after FFX.
There is barely a storyline/music focus anymore, just battles/graphics types of games.

So the reason we get boosters for the classics is for noobs to enjoy the storyline from those games ? The games are stupidly easy enough.
However the only hard things in the games are the drop rates (especially IV) and certain side quests like Excalibur II in FFIX etc.
Um... Story and Music are good in later Final Fantasy games too...

No the story is horrible after FFX and music has NEVER been as close as good when Nobou Uematsu was.

So what you're saying is you like the old banana because its ok to eat but the grilled steak with mushrooms that you forgot about, is NOT comparable !!

Cocatrice was very powerful when I got it on the ff4 hardmode version which was translated by Dejap back in the day

Are you... kidding me?
I don't want to accuse you... but... this is foolish.
Final Fantasy XIII music is good too. (Listen to "Dust to Dust" "Archylitte Steppe" and "Gapra Whitewood"
Final Fantasy XIV REALM REBORN music is amazing too (All of boss themes, town themes, entire soundtrack is godlike!)

Do you realize that Nobuo Uematsu is not the only VGM composer?
There's also Yuzo Koshiro (First two Ys, Etrian Odyssey), Motoi Sakuraba (Tales of series) Falcom J.D.K. Sound Team (Ys series) Shoji Meguro (Shin Megami Tensei series)
And... they all sound even BETTER than Final Fantasy music...

Don't get me wrong. I started with Final Fantasy series as my first JRPG love, but other JRPG franchises have better music... deal with it.

Lol no you deal with it.
And enjoy your banana.

And i was only talking about FF music not other music composers lol..
There is no contest between Nobou and the rest of the FF music composers that replaced him.
Im not saying all the music after FFX sucked but in comparison yes they did...alot.

Personally i think Etrian Odyssey, Tales, Ys and Shin Megami to be stupidly bad jrpg games that have ruined the jrpg genre.
Tried some of them and didnt find any real fun music, but then again didnt play any for that long. The games were so uninteresting...
But hey thats just me, i think jrpg was good back in the day, not anymore.

Its kinda like comparing Led Zeppelin to Wolfmother lol.
Wolfmother aint bad but it has NOTHING on the classic rock.

Sure you can enjoy Wolfmother (Im using it as an example) but that banana is only fun until its gets boring.
Steak never gets boring, catch my drift ?
Anyway just my opinion.

It's a good example because Rock 'n Roll doesnt exist anymore.

Shin Megami Tensei... a BAD JRPG game?
Um... are you trolling me?
First:
Etrian Odyssey is a new JRPG game series. And it is played same as classic JRPGs. with Turn-based battles and first-person perspective dungeons, like in Wizardry or Ultima.
Second:
Tales of series started with Tales of Phantasia, at the time between Final Fantasy VI and VII. And it has story and music up to Final Fantasy standarts. Except battles are much different to play, because battle system is action-style, not turn-based. I'm not saying that one is better than another, but it's a different experience.
Third: Ys and Megami Tensei started at same time as first Final Fantasy.
Ys may be not so much game, but it has an awesome soundtrack.
And Shin Megami Tensei... come on. It's the BEST JRPG series.
And i'm not talking about Persona. I'm talking about ENTIRE Shin Megami Tensei series!
Just play Shin Megami Tensei III - Nocturne on PS2 emulator... it's amazing and hardcore game to play.

Shin Megami Tensei I and II were so amazing, that they beat Final Fantasy VI in terms of challenging gameplay and philosophical story. Final Fantasy VI seems like a child's fairytale compared to Shin Megami Tensei.

You know, i started playing Console games with Final Fantasy.
I loved all first 10 Final Fantasy games. I loved playing them alot! Final Fantasy III on NES emulator was my fav!
But then i tried these JRPG series.. and found out that they are a lot better.

Ys is NOT a JRPG. It's an Action RPG. Just because you called Ys an RPG points that you haven't even played it. But it's amazing nonethenless... and you said that it has no fun music, which points that you didn't played it. It has AMAZING music... one of best from Action games!

Tales series... they are amazing too! All of Tales series games are maintaining it's Final Fantasy in anime style touch, and it has a lot of cruel and sad scenees in these games... Tales is same as classic Final Fantasy games, just in Anime style. I would recommend Tales of Symphonia, as it's the greatest game in the series. But be aware, that begining of this game is kinda predictable... but when you get to Tower of Ressurection, story goes BATSHEET CRAZY!

Etrian Odyssey is a great series with challenging gameplay. it's not much of a story, but rather exploring and battling monsters. It's for it's own fans.

Shin Megami Tensei... come on, no doubt it's the BEST JRPG series!
EO and SMT are both ATLUS' JRPG games... and ATLUS sure is the GOD of JRPGs!
After playing Shin Megami Tensei games i realized that Final Fantasy compared to SMT is like a fairy-tale compared to mature story!
Shin Megami Tensei most of the time has silent protagonist, but it's done RIGHT here. Because game gives you a lot of choices and you determine which way protagonist will go. Law, Chaos or Neutral. And every side is okay! They are basically God, Devil and Humanity. But each side has it's own pros and cons!
Also. Battle System there is amazing. It uses the Elemental Weakness battle system, and you gain more turns the more you attack enemy's weakness!
And it's very fun!
As i said, story is very mature. It shows us that both Devil and God have their good and bad sides.
Also, in SMT II you can kick YHVH's butt. YHVH is a Jeudo-Christian god!

I just didnt like it thats all, none of these games you mentioned.

JRPG's or ARPG i approve are:

Final Fantasy (Not much after X though)
Koudelka
Shadow Hearts
Kingdom Hearts
Nostalgia
Grandia
Chrono Trigger
Last Story

And some other games i found are decent like Dragon Quest, Breath of Fire, Vagrant Story, Mana series, Valkyrie Chronicles and ofc awesome games like the Mario RPG series

Probably more but games i wanna play are Lunar and Jeanne d'Arc for example.
I dont wanna bash your list of games but ive never found them interesting, artwork nor storyline.
I tried games like Suikoden and Saga, didnt like them either.
Moogy 2 ABR 2016 a las 4:32
Would be awesome to find new ones but Ys,Tales, Neptune and Persona games are definetly not one of them, too bad theyve made so many and i cant find many other options but these multi produced series that seem to take all the space nowadays.

Atlus made Nostalgia, i liked the simplicity in that game, even though its one of few games i like that doesnt have much storyline. But it was one of the newer jrpg i liked.
But i really havent liked their games much for some reason..

Oh well, okay then.
But you made another two mistakes.
First:
Atlus has nothing to do with Nostalgia on DS... It was made by Matrix Software, which made Final Fantasy III and IV 3d remakes.

Second: I told you that Tales is as old series as Final Fantasy VI... And Ys is same age as Final Fantasy series... do you even listen to me?

Also, Persona is just a SPIN-OFF of Shin Megami Tensei series...

Oh well, can i add you to my friends so we can just talk a little about JRPGs? I won't bash you, i just want to know your tastes better and to be sure that it wasn't just a misunderstanding...

Um... i haven't even mentioned Neptunia...
Also, Persona 1 came out in 1996, as a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei series...

But thing is, most of the time when i ask on Gamefaqs or other gaming forums, "which series is better" most of them say Shin Megami Tensei...
