Opening Cinematic Sound is Choppy
Has anyone else run into an issue where the opening cinematic sound is very choppy?
I have tried turning vsync on and off, but this has not helped.
I tried Final Fantasy III and have no issues with the opening cinematic there.

Evryone using a 7.1 5.1 Headset? Logitech Maybe? I bought Audio Repeater for that reason it scales evrythink down to stereo and then the headset is doing its magic since then i had never any problems.

Thank you for the suggestion MiscOne. I don't use headphones. I am using Logitech 5.1 surround speakers and a Soundblaster Z sound card. Your suggestion did help me find the right solution.

To fix the audio issue you have to make sure your sound/speakers are set to Stereo Direct or Stereo 2.0/2.1. If you have the audio set to 5.1 or above it causes the sound stutter issue.

I'm not sure why Final Fantasy III has not given me this issue. I can run the mkv file that contains the opening movie for IV just fine on my computer; however, when the game tries to play it gets super choppy.

Again, thanks MiscOne, you suggestion helped me track down a fix.

Just tried this, and yeah, my audio device was set to "7.1 Surround" by default (I'm using headphones). Switched it to Stereo and the intro cinematic sound is perfectly fine now.

Thanks for the solution here!

On a side note to anyone who finds this post. I was wrong about FInal Fantasy 3.
There are audio issues if you do not set your speakers to 2.0/2.1. The main ways you will see the FF3 audio issue is as follows:
1) Sometimes you will have no overworld audio. The same can happen in dungeons.
2) You will never hear music play when you are in a vehicle including Chocobos. You will hear sound effects, but no music

I'm using my on-board sound on my Asus ROG mobo. It's default to 2.1. Still choppy. Suggestions?

Had the same issue using a Vyper headset on Win10. Win10 has a feature called spatial sound (a sort of surround sound for headphones) when using headphones. Disabling this feature fixes the sound problem for this game and can be toggled on and off by right clicking the speaker icon on the right of the task bar then turning spatial sound on or off.

I've been trying to find info on this issue as well but it seems there is very little info on it. Initially I didn't have any issue, but via a combination of changing my resolution and an update that steam pushed out I am now having sever stuttering issues with the BGM for the opening movie. It seems all else is fine so far but I haven't gotten to any other cinematics yet and I'm in the last area of the game. I plan to try to complete the game today if I can so I can see if this stuttering issue continues but everything else seems find. I don't have any surround sound on my computer and as far as I can tell I don't believe I have anything set to surround sound but if someone can explain to me how to adjust it in windows 11 just in case that would be nice. I'd like to summarize but the only changes I've had since I started playing was an update steam pushed out, and I have messed with my resolution a bit as well, however the resolution has been restored and the issue persists and I am unsure how to roll back updates if at all possible for steam games. I did not initially have this issue as well when I began playing.

I was listening to sound through the monitoring port on my Blue Yeti mic, so I switched back to my digital out speakers and plugged my headphones into that. Fixed the sound issue. But I couldn't find any setting for the Yeti that made any difference before trying that.

I am also using onboard sound that was set to stereo.

This 'Spatial sound' setting was Off but, for me at least, there is also another one right above it called 'Audio enhancements' which turning Off solved this issue for me.

Disabling both 'Spatial sound' and 'Audio enhancements' was what worked for me also
