Turn based Mod
As the title says, I'm looking for a mod that makes combat Final Fantasy IV real turn based, without the ATB bar, which I couldn't find so far.

I like strategy games, but the ATB bar breaks this kind os experience for me as I like think what to do next, without the time limitation that this kind of system imposes. I already tried using the "slow" mode, but even so it still doesn't offers that much time.

And in my opinion, in a game that has so many spells/skills option as FFIV it makes no sense the use of an ATB-based combat. Please reply if you know where can I get this kind of mod or if you're able to mod the game yourself. Thanks

Yes it does

So then wouldn't this work as a "turn based mode" for this game?

"Wait" mode doesn't make it turn based, it makes the enemies wait while you're navigating submenus. If you sit on the top menu (where you choose attack, item, spell, augments, etc.), enemies will attack you even with "Wait" on. That isn't the true turn-based he's asking for, and no, such a mod does not exist.

You could always put your cursor on a potion while you think, or even pause the game, not perfect, but gotta be better than not playing at all.

I'm certainly going to reply even if it's coming onto 3 years ago! xD

Wait mode in FF games waits for you while you pick abilities or spells, it's always the mode I play on whenever it's possible, enemy and party member ATB guages will pause while item / ability select is open and it stays that way until you decide, it becomes true turn base, much more like FFX rather than "active time" battle.

If you are going to convince me I was just thinking super fast this whole time so it made things look like time was paused, then you are gonna need to say a little more than "wrong" alone, explain why time does not stop in wait mode.

I don't understand why people call these games turn-based. Having action cooldowns doesn't make it turn based. If enemies are able to keep playing when you do nothing then the game isn't turn-based.

Come to think of it. You are right. SNES original FF4 didnt have a ATB bar. FF5 introduced that though.

You're still taking turns though. The turns may overlap slightly, but they're still turns.

Plus it's definitely not an action RPG, and the only types of battle system are action and turn based so...

It is "turn based" just a variation used to make it more interesting to some as well as add more stragety in the form of ATB manipulation. Allowing you to do things like sync up turns so you're all attacking at once. Or.. to answer another comment here. Skip through animations while hovering over a potion/cure whilst in wait mode. When you learn the ATB style you will have more strategy then you would regular turn based and a little less RNG influence.

Not the SNES/PS1 versions. Not sure about PSP but FF4 originally had invisible ATB meter
In FF5 is when the ATB bar was implemented
