Most songs last a few turns after that the ATB will refill.
ah! thanks for clearing that up for me! :)
The bardsongs that buff your party such as lifes ballad and hastemarch will incapacitate the bard for the duration that they are active. I believe they will be active until the bard is hit, or the battle ends.
That is why I did not put it on Rosa. Primarily during end of the game you're going to want to use hastemarch and you will need Rosa to heal your party.
I ended up putting it on Kain. There are a few things to consider.
First if you don't use it right away you might miss learning songs. For instance edward was lv 15 when he died and I did not use the bardsong augment until kain was lv 30. I perhaps missed learning some songs upon level up.
Second the enemy status effects can be quite useful at lower levels. This is probably the main reason to use it right away. Or, you can wait.
Third, for obvious reasons you want to put it on a character with high Speed stat, so that you can use the status effect songs on the enemy before they can act.
I would think that using it on Edge might be the best but then you have to go through most of the game without it. Also that means you can't use the Reach or other augments on him easily. Another thing is that he has low defense, especially magic defense and bad armor, so he dies easily when hit in lifes ballad or hastemarch, in which he is highly vulnerable.
Using it on Rydia is kind of a waste since she has most of the spells that can be cast by bardsong. But if you are going for hastemarch this might be the best. Although in this game you'll probably need her to cast magic against most bosses. Because most bosses have very strong counter against physical attacks.
So well I put it on Kain. You sacrifice some attack damage. But now Kain has left the party LOL. If I had to do it again I MIGHT (but probably not) wait to put it on Edge. My opinion could change once I finish the game...
