Why there are black bars on top and bottom of the chess field in Full screen?

It feels to me like a screen ratio issue. So these blacks bars are there to prevent stretching the game vertically.
Like the game has been coded to be 16:9 or something like that, but your screen resolution is more square shaped. But I could be wrong.
