Tell me about the partial controller support.
I have the PC release when it was transleted before. I also bought Ys and Eiyuu Densetsu games as well as Zwei II + outright for PC. They all work well with the xbox 360 controller I used with them. HOWEVER as you know Xanadu Next when it was translated before was done by an indie group and they could have patched the controller to work better.

I'm wondering if my 360 controller could work with this one too, because iirc the other games I mentioned came after or during the 360 so I don't know if it's supported as well as Zwei II Ys6,O,F and ED 6 FC, SC, 3rd.

Can anyone tell me their experience with the xbox 360 controller and this before I buy it?

From what little I've played, the 360 controller will let you do pretty much all of the movement/combat/camera controls/interacting with the environment you need to do, but if you need to equip something or deal with some other menu settings, you'll need to switch to keyboard and mouse. The default button configuration has a couple of awkward button settings, but that's easy enough to change to something comfortable. Overall it seems pretty workable so far.
I've managed to get everything working using just an X360 pad. You need to hold the "Use Mouse" button in order to activate and move the cursor, then press the regular (or custom-bound) menu confirm/deny buttons for inventory. Assuming you don't bind a key to "System", which is largely useless during a play session except for quitting, you can bind everything else of note to the pad, like camera rotation using the left/right lower triggers. The game isn't as friendly to gamepads as Falcom's Ys games from the period, but it's more workable than I expected.

Cool, that doesn't sound too bad.
OTOH I'm having very few if any of the bugs others have been reporting, like being unable to open the Skills and Magic tabs in the inventory menu whether using mouse or gamepad. This game always finds new ways to cause trouble, which tells me it wasn't programmed well under the surface despite looking great up above.

I have the game on GOG and have been trying to use an xbox one controller, and as soon as you go to an area where the camera is allowed to rotate it just keeps spinning and if you use the Left trigger you can get it to spin the other direction.
It appears that the camera rotation is bound to the trigger and you can't change it and the game reads the axis wrong.

Are you using Windows 10 Anniversary edition? The Anniversary edition should fix the Xbox one axis issue for all games.

I'm playing with mouse and keyboard and the controls feel a lot closer to Diablo, as if they were intended.

Not sure if that was the original design or the PC port people did a great job with it, but I cannot go back to the controller after this.

Playing with a DS4 controller has its benefits here ^^
"InoutMapper" emulates a basic Xinput controller while also turning the touchpad into a mouse.
With it, there is rarely a need to switch devices.

But like people alredy said, if you map the "use Mouse" key comfortably and you can cope with a little bit of clunky menuing due to that, using a controller is perfectly doable ^^

I played with both methods and i have to say, that backstabbing is a LOT easier with a controller overall. So much so that it almost feels like cheating :P

Well I got it and it's not at all a hassle.
Hopefully HOPEFULLY with my and many others' continued support they'll see that have few options left for the PC market and they will feel inclined to fnally work on and bring over my favorite PC game of all time, Zwei II + (which btw has perfect 360 control right out of the box)

Xseed is on a roll at the moment. They just localized a 11 year old PC game :P
At this point you could say that everything is fair game ^^
These guys are a gift that keep on giving

Having the same issue with the steam version. I'm using a wireless adapter with Windows 7. Can't find a fix

The game works fine with a 360 controller, but not Xbox one.

EDIT: I found a solution, download XInput Plus from the first link, and follow the tutorial from the 2nd link.

This may have been fixed in a Windows 10 update, but I couldn't find anything for Windows 7 aside from the tutorial I linked to.

So I just started and began messing with the inputs. Can someone explain how "use mouse" is supposed to work because I have it mapped and it does nothing for me. I can move my mouse and have the cursor come up in the center of the screen but not move. Basically the cursor will stay on screen with the ui being highlighted when my mouse happens to hover over.

Well, normally, you hold the "Use Mouse" button down and move the curser with the stick.
X / "Attack" is LMB, A / "Skill" is RMB

Thanks for the response. I found that I had to uncheck the "use system mouse" box in the settings to fix my issue.
