I agree and disagree. I also hate how everything compares to it now. I also agree that it didn't 'invent' a genre....But... Well. to me dark souls is kinda like the 3d action game version of prince of persia. Where prince of persia had this weird intentional input lag that was predictable and balanced around it. Dark souls doesn't do th is with input lag per say. But it takes a 3d 3rd person action game like ninja gaiden, devil may cry, etc. And make it less over the top by humanizing the playable character with slower more deliberate motions and whatnot.
that said I still need to buy this game but I played it via the fan translation patch released several years ago. I plan on buying it anew though. In any case, what little I played I DID see a slower, more believable feel to the animation/action speeds than you do in say ys. Where you can slash a weapon as t hough you were carrying nothing at all. Does that make this a dark souls? I wouldn't have made the comparison myself, but certainly would before diablo.
