Came here to see if it's fixed. Sigh...
You just have to man mode it. Luckily in my experience that's the only exploding enemy that is bugged and they're very early in the game so not a big deal.
Rushing through the rooms without killing the slimes is the best way to stay alive, if you don't mind missing out on bonus chests. Well, until you out-level and overpower them and the explosions only do 1 famage anymore.
(If you do fight them, chances are any extra loot you get you'll need to invest in healing potions anyway.)
It's kind of a mystery to me. Xanadu Next was one of the most difficult projects I ever had.
:( Damn, that's a shame, though it's honestly only one issue (achievements too, maybe?) that is easily bypassed with additional levelling. There's no other "all damage" enemies in the game, are there?
Ok, thank you! In that case it's not worth any worry at all. Thanks anyway, Sara :)
There's a good deal of money lying around the area, and you aren't required to touch the slimes unless you want to open a single chest with a single weapon in it. Said weapon can be claimed at any point in time (such as when the slime's damage is nullified by the hat, or just...at any point in time later if you want the skill attached).
The slimes don't drop anything super useful, aren't worth much EXP (use the fire spell which you get for free right before this area on the skeletons instead, they're worth a ton for the area--or just kill them twice.)
That parenthetical does point out the only issue here-- if you don't invest the minimal amount to open said chest, you don't learn a mildly useful technical detail about elemental sabres regarding undead. This bug is in no way a serious issue, doesn't lock anything important for any extended period of time, and is easily worked around.
(The aggression here isn't at the original poster, though there are a couple useful answers for you in there.)
You're free to still feel it's inexcusable, but the game's perfectly playable around this fairly minor bug, and efforts were made to fix this bug by someone who regularly goes above and beyond to enhance these games for us (as an example, I've been told that most of the enhancements for the Ys I&II Chronicles PC port were her doing). It's a shame that she hasn't been able to fix the bug, but it is what it is.
