Well, not entirely true, the DS version had both, but the bump combat was stylus only, the slash combat was hilariously broken for some bosses.
Ys 8 looks great (a little PSO2-ish though), I would LOVE to see it be a PC/PS4 exclusive (since those are the only two homes for Ys), though a Celcita port would be good. I'm just re-buying these games on Steam (own most already on PSP) just to show Falcom my loyalty for this golden franchise, and I no longer have to π-rate Ark of Naphistim to play it on PC (getting the original is pretty hard).
There was a chinese port of Ys Seven for the PC, but both π-rating and buying the game is annoyingly hard and I still have $20.00 left on some tao bao account somewhere because of it.
I've heard some pretty mixed things about the Ys PC Chinese ports, so if they decide to pick it up, I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. They have a lot to fix up.
Concerning DS slash style; the bosses did have some weird fighting with the slash, but i would take that opver bumping any day of the week. I really dislike bumping system with all my heart
