Only option to play online is "Play Lan (No Steam)"
Everything works for me, but as soon as I try to hop in an online lobby, I can't actually play multiplayer that isn't lan.

Now I looked online and this might be something that has to do with custom hats, since I made some of those a couple years back. I tried deleting all the files for them in the local files but I still get the error :/

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hey tom! Your custom hats should be okay, it sounds like one way or another the game isn't initializing steam properly. Some first steps would be to make sure Steam is running and that you're not set to offline (this might not matter but it's good to be sure). In the high likelyhood that this isn't the problem, it's possible something with the Steam dll's is messing up. If you right click the game in Steam and go Properties -> Local Files -> Browse Local Files it should take you to the install directory. If there's a file in there called ducklog.txt, would you be able to post its contents here?

Unfortunately I don't see any ducklog.txt file :/

Ahh okay :( Would you be able to check something? When you start the game, at the main menu press Tilde (~) to open the command console. Near the very top of the log, it should say something like DGSave.Initialize, Does it say 'DGSave.Initialize(Steam'?

It might even say something like "Steam Initialize Failed", is there anything odd in the log? Also, when you press start in the lobby does it load up your steam profile or does it load Player 1? Finally, if you press pause are you able to invite friends and copy an invite link or are those options missing?

Sorry about the trouble, this is a rare issue that I've seen come up before but was never able to quite discern what the cause was. Hopefully we can work together to get it figured out!

1. DGSave.Initilize (No Steam)

2. Player one, not my steam name.

3. When I go into multiplayer, the only options are "Resume, Options, Back Out, and Main Menu"

Hoping I can solve this issue, too. Had a lot of fun playing this game 2-3 years back, and this new update seems super fun! Hoping I can get some of my friends into it too, assuming I'll be able to play with them :/

Okay, so turns out this problem just...solved itself? Booted up the game to see if it would work, and it did! Oddly enough, I got the update screen again (the one giving me 3 new hats and telling me about the update) so maybe the game refreshed itself or something?

All I know is that now I can play with my friends and in public lobbies. Two of my friends just got Duck Game and I'm already having a blast playing with them. Still a little nervous about using custom hats, but I'll see. Thanks for all the help!

Glad it worked itself out, sorry I wasn't able to be of more help :( The issue has come up for other people before and usually it sorts itself out eventually, I'm not exactly sure what causes it and it's hard to debug since Steam just refuses to initialize at all. I'm looking into whether or not there's some information I could be logging when Steam fails to load to help people avoid the issue in the future.
