I'd like to clear some stuff up about the update...
Hi all,

So in light of some people on Reddit talking about the new update (because they have access to it), I figured that I should try to talk about it, without giving much away (though if you really want to, you will be able to find stuff on it.) I also have a little bit of an advantage over some of the other people regarding the new update as I have talked to Landon (aka superjoebob, the developer), regarding the update, but also about Duck Game in general (where he wants to take the game etc.)

Without further ado, let's go!

New Features:
  • Three new guns
These don't change the Duck Game formula, rather, they complement it (though one gun will definitely change how team play works... :steamhappy:) i.e. they don't vary the game a whole heap (you don't really need to learn lots of new strategies for the existing levels)
  • Two new tilesets
A snow + ice and Egyptian theme.
  • New levels
There are a couple on the existing tilesets, however there are a whole heap on the new tilesets. Now, this is going to sound weird, but the people who have played the new update will probably agree with me - these new levels I feel are (whether intentionally or not) a bit more competitive focused - there is still a lot of silliness to them, but they feel a little more varied, and play a lot more on all the skills of Duck Game (aiming and movement, rather than just one of the two). I guess you could say that they feel a little more "grown up." If you've played the game a lot, you will know what I mean.
On a side note, there are a few levels that aren't in the map rotation that are absolutely brilliant, though I don't think they'll be put into the rotation.
  • A levelling system
WILL NOT AFFECT HOW YOU FIND A MATCH. Basically after every game, and after you go back into the lobby (I don't know about multiplayer), you will earn XP to level up your player. I don't really want to go any further than that.
  • Toys
I really don't wanna go into this, as it will ruin the surprise WAAAAY too much.
  • Vincent
Tied into the toys. Again, don't wanna go into this.
  • All classes public
Mostly for programmers / modders. Landon has said to me that by the release, all the classes will be open to modders, meaning that we can expand the game / add in new features a lot more easily, and add new stuff before him (perhaps a campaign, AI etc.)
  • New music
  • In the pause menu, there is a "level skip" button (to skip broken / hated maps)
  • Updated particles (most notably smoke)
  • Updated SFX for some weapons
  • Updated graphics for the TV
  • Improved system for choosing levels
i.e. Normal maps, Random maps, Custom maps, Workshop maps (I think these are correct…)
  • Improved lighting system
  • Ropes + wires etc synchronized online
  • AFK hosts disconnect after a while, so no dead lobbies
  • Brand new random level generation
  • Profiles / levels sync online (not 100% sure about this, but I think that it happened to me...)
  • Bug fixes
  • NEW HATS BOYS
  • Probably a couple more things that I've missed lol

What's not in the new update:
  • Licking
Technically it was in the game, but he removed it because he felt it was too... "Wrong" or "adult" or "inappropriate", if you know what I mean :frogzone:. Landon has said to me that it may be re-added as a console command, if you feel... adventurous.
  • Arcade levels
Probably because of possible breakage between hats (ie if you have the Captain hat, and then new arcade levels come along.) Probably also because the toys take over most of the rewards.
  • New achievements
Dunno if anyone was holding out for those, but if you were, sorry to burst your bubble :steamhappy:.

Extra stuff:
  • Duck Game is coming to PS4
  • There is a picture going around on Reddit that Duck Game is going to be on Xbox One
I have talked to Landon about this (before the picture was released), and because Duck Game for PS4 is being made in Unity, it is really easy to bring it to other platforms (namely Xbox, though he did specifically say that there are no plans to bring it to other platforms (i.e. Android TV, Wii U etc.))

So there you have it! The update has been a long time coming (and will probably still take a couple of months, but no confirmation ATM), but I recon it'll have been worth it!

Also really, no new Arcade levels?

We were teased about some of them, seems odd to me to not add them and just leave them out :o

What about proper .hat file support? I thought I saw that somewhere.

NO LICKING?! You maniacs! You blew it up! I'm not exaggerating when I say that was the feature I was most excited for in the entire patch. It's a shame it's not being added.

I made a post on this too!

To add, having programmers get into this game to make a campaign would be the absolutely coolest idea i've ever heard. Thanks for the info!

I'm also jealous of your awesome formatting.

How hard is it to get into modding and make your own stuff?

I'd love to expand duck game with my weeb ♥♥♥♥

Just to clear things up with the levelling system:

After every game: gain XP, CLOCK, SANDWICH, TOY, MONEY, EGG(?), BABY BOTTLE(?)
What actually happens is the XP gained after games counts towards all of the above fields, meaning that all of the fields are in some way increased (except MONEY and CLOCK, the former doesn't increase by XP from my knowledge and the latter uses a time based system).
All values stated are in a incremental bar format except for time which is based on a clock, and money and XP which are both based on integers.
For simplicity's sake, I will call the overall profit of games which increases the stated values EXP, while XP would be the integer itself that determines levelups.

XP = Level ups
CLOCK =After a full 12 hours (not real-time, the time passed is measured by levels played- not sure how this works) calendar passes a day (days have events such as Vincent showing up, food day, pay day, EXP day etc)
SANDWICH = To feed the egg
TOY = To unlock an object for your room
MONEY = To buy objects for your room
EGG(?) = This bar is right under the XP display, and I assume is somehow related to it. I'm not sure what this does exactly as the bar was maxed out to begin with in the beta video.
SANDWICH CARD: This appears every time you fill the SANDWICH bar. A card appears with six stamp squares and it gets stamped once. Any subsequent SANDWICH bar fills will stamp it again, until it reaches six stamps whereapon it gives you a rare toy and resets the stamp amount.

There's also a baby bottle that fills using EXP as well, but I have yet to see what it does. Also, there are some parts of the video where you can see the bottle not filling up even though EXP is being gained.

WHAT DO EGGS DO?: I'm not exactly sure but from looking at the levelling menu you can collect around 8 of them. I've noticed that the eggs can be placed in the room just like a toy/object/decoration.
WHAT IS A TOY?: It's a object for your spawn room. You can place it somewhere in that and it basically acts like decoration.
WHO IS VINCENT?: I think he's like a guy who sells you toys and stuff. In the beta video you can see him offering 4 toys, and you would have an option to choose one of them to buy? I'm not sure if it's limited to one toy only. I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure I'm wrong.
WHO IS VINCENT'S SON?: Gives you unique toys.

Tell me if I contradicted or forgot any information as relating to the level system.
