Do I need the dlc for multiplayer?

I'm thinking of getting this game for me and a friend but I'm not sure of getting the dlc so is it required for multiplayer and if it is can only one of us have it and play with the other without the dlc?

Ok, you need the dlc if you want to host, but you do not need it if you are joining (I think. Dont quote me on that.)

oh so if what you're saying is true, I can just get the dlc for myself and my friend can still play with me even though he doesn't have the dlc?

yes, unless the devs added a code block specifically to block that, then yes.

in fact, the other person doesnt even need to own rain world to play co-op

For co-op, only one person needs the DLC. Only the host needs to own the game to start with, anyways.

How does this work? Wanting to play with my brother but hesitant to buy two copies of the game.

you just need one copy
It surprises me how one of the best steam features is so unknown, also you can use 3rd party programs like parsec to get online local coop

only one person needs a copy of the game, and the dlc if you want that too

that person can just steam remote play to the other person and then it works fine, i did it today myself

there isn't an online mode in this game so you have to use steam remote play or something else
