There is a split screen co-op mod, which you may prefer if you wish to remove the limiting camera control. However, this is not my preferred option; it shrinks the playspace and it can become quite jarring looking at half of a moving screen.
I would personally recommend "SBCameraScroll," both for singleplayer and co-op. You can focus on one person but still adjust the camera as needed to see offscreen threats and simply pass the camera when needed.
Co-op has an option which adds a short timer to pipes to allow you to catch up with your partners before they get sent to another room or screen. However, another mod "Stick Together" adds a lot more control over this mechanic and make managing screen transitions easier when these pipes are involved.
If you find you or your friends are at very different skill levels, but want your friends to be involved throughout a cycle without directly giving them the advantage there is a really useful and popular mod called "Revivify". You can perform CPR on dead slugcats (including pups) for a variable amount of difficulty to hopefully force them back into the fold. Revived slugcats undergo fatigue much like being starved, but it will let them hopefully still engage with the game even if they find themselves getting killed often. It does not return slugcats which disappear offscreen or in dens, though-- so be quick!
There's another newer mod I have yet to test, but it looks quite useful on paper if you think sharing a single food bar is too convenient: "Individual Food Bars" will add extra food bars for other players, and players can independently become malnourished. More valuable when playing on campaigns such as monk or survivor, where more players can really overpower the vanilla game balance.
On to general tweaks that may make multiplayer more engaging, "Pups for everyone!" can add slugpups to all campaigns regardless of their place in the timeline. When combined with enabling other campaigns for DLC slugcats, you can play these campaigns and still raise orphaned children together!
"Rotundworld" is also a fairly popular mod for co-op, as it's much more entertaining and playable with a bigger party of players.

I didnt quite catch what does do because I never played the game, Im just preparing it for local coop in a couple of hours.
"SBCameraScroll" sounds like a must have, already added it
"Stick Together" will make waiting and being togheter way more enjoyable, already installed it
"Revivify" seems very useful and fun, added it
"Individual Food Bars" I dont know about this one because I never played it, so if I play coop (without this mod) it doesnt matter who "eats" the bar will go up for the two?. So installing the mod will make it harder because we need more food and every one needs to eat a lot?
and the other 2 mods I cant quite catch what they do and If they will spoil or break anything for a first time player,
"unshackled co-op" same as the last 2, I didnt even know there are different campaigns
Ah. Aside from additional workshop content, you only really need Jolly Co-op active to play co-op completely. You can add Moreslugcats expansion (the dlc) to experience those slugcats in the vanilla campaigns, but due to some instabilities the new campaigns cannot be played without additional mods (see the above comment) to fix some incompatibilities and enable the campaigns.
You can STILL use the DLC slugcats and explore the new areas without additional mods, and the main story will work as normal in the three main vanilla campaigns with other slugcats. The food requirements and story will be the same, but your abilities will depend on your chosen characters.
Expedition is completely optional, but it DOES support Jolly Co-op as well. The only caveat is that expedition will require P1 to play the character hosting the expedition. Expedition will open these new DLC areas with some additional challenges and content WITHOUT installing other mods, but the story will not play out despite no longer bearing the same bugs or incompatibilities.
TLDR; you only need Jolly Co-op enabled (and remix, it's always enabled by default and required for managing any mods) to experience the full vanilla game. DLC content is limited without mods, but still has substantial additions to Co-op.
EDIT: Noting that you have stated that you have not played the game, adding the DLC may be inadvisable at this point. DLC characters CAN be forcibly unlocked if you so wish, but adding them to the playable roster legitimately will require you to make some progress in the base game first. Some new areas and content exists, but it may not substantially change your experience without playing the DLC characters.
I will say this much: the game is very difficult, and it is not really balanced for co-op. Co-op was added since the original Jolly Co-op developed by the community was a really big novelty. On that note, you can feel free to experience co-op for your first playthrough-- just keep in mind that the game was developed with a singleplayer campaign in mind. Some areas will become easier, others might become harder. Some of the mods I recommended may make the game more accessible or balanced, pick and choose them as you see fit as you play through.
hey guys is this cool for a first coop playtrough? Im getting too much info, im trying to keep up but I dont know really.
Im just confused if the DLC adds content to the main game, or if it adds extra campaigns. Because when I start a new game it doesnt ask me wich campaign I want, it sends me to a game.
Also this looks good I think!
BTW there's a bit of a caveat with camerascroll that's worth mentioning. When you travel through region gates (you'll know 'em when you see them) the mod will generate connected screens for every room in that region.
This will typically take a minute or two, and the game will appear to freeze. Just saying this so you don't get too concerned when this happens; this is not a problem with the game, the mod is just less invasive when it frontloads merging all these rooms before you're moving through them. Once the mod has generated combined rooms for a region, you will not have to wait on it again when entering that region. It can also safely be uninstalled if you start to have problems with it.
