Btw, the term metroidvania isn't really accurate here. You won't get more powerful throughout the games from a purely gameplay standpoint. You will get more powerful through learning how the game works. The skill ceiling is high.
brainvania, whatever you call it. I love Braid, Outer Wilds, Fez, Monster's Expedition, if we're talking about this genre.
The point is, in Rain World I hate going back across all the map to the place where I've died. My brain just straight up tells me "you are wasting your time on doing the same thing over and over again where the game could at least respect your time in it". And while it is could be fun for 5 times, I already see myself dying 100+ times and running 100+ times across the map all over again. Yes, you could be careful, but considering how cryptic at times the game could be and how unpredictable, it is not really the case.
if you're really lost, try to keep an eye out for your friendly little guide - that yellow holographic creature will generally try to help point you in the "recommended" direction, especially if you're struggling.
but if it's your general issue to entire game, then you playing the wrong game. Let me even surprise you : in a lot, if not most of games out there require you to run back if you fail at level or boss.
The game is very special but you have to last long enough to begin to get that and understand it. Just live in the world a bit and role play. Its easy to get frustrated early on. Watching youtube vids about how to move ect without spoilers would be very helpful too. Also I used the maps on the wiki because without it as a new player its just so easy to get lost even with the golden helper. I prolly would not have made it this far without maps early on, so I totally get how you feel.
However some of the coolest things about this game would have been far more amazing if I had never spoilered it beforehand. If I had organically found evertything through just exploring how cool that would have been.
