pup behaviour!
I've noticed that while slugpups are very stupid sometimes, in classic rainworld fashion, they are also prone to unique behaviours and fun things they do that I find interesting! I've been documenting some behaviours I've seen in my pups (though I want to hear what other people have noticed as well :)

- Pup did a series of short jumps in front of another pup that was sleeping, and shortly after, they both started jumping and running into each other.
- Repeatedly seen across several saves and campaigns, but pups that I carried a lot were less likely to follow me away from the shelter, and even if taken out, were prone to running back to it as soon as possible.
- Walked up to me and jumped a few times. I did pick it up, and it didn't do this again after I put it down to do something.
- When performing an experiment with slugpups in sandbox (strongly inspired by youtuber Invader Batflight) I ended up swapping one of the four pups, as one of them was acting strangely. The remaining three hated this new pup, and unlike any of the other pups, repeatedly hit it with rocks and such if it got in the way, and on at least a few occasions seeking said pup out to hit them.
- It was holding onto a live eggbug when unsure of what to do with it, or how to kill it. Said pup had never seen an eggbug before.
- Not eating food given to it until it had seen me eat it beforehand. Especially annoying in Artificers campaign where Carolina (the pup) wouldn't eat scavengers until I had shown her she could do that.
- Pups who are new to poles being nervous about dropping from heights, even ones with high bravery.

For that second to last point, pups can't eat scavengers. Unless you have a pup-related mod installed, in which case, all of these points are invalidated as some may be caused by the mod. (My guess would be Pups+)

Ah, yeah, I forgot to mention. Carolina is a hunter pup, so she's technically capable of eating scavengers, but I forgot to mention Pups+

when you finish the eating animation for a creature, the game automatically throws the body and since a slugpup will pick up anything that gets thrown to them, thats probably what happened. they also auto eat anything in their hands if its consumable and their not full

Yeah, so as I said, all these points are invalidated as we have no way of knowing which are caused by the mod and which are actually part of the base game.

I don't know if you have Pups+ plus or not, as I have little way of knowing, but as far as I'm aware, it doesn't affect pup behaviour (besides changing the base personality stats of that specific pups id, should the pup type change it like with Hunter Pups). I also have no mods that advertise themselves as changing pup behaviour, especially as better pup ai hasn't been updated for the new rainworld version. Even so, I enjoy watching slugpups, as a treat. Thanks anyway for the input :)

I leave Pups+ off for two reasons. One, I hate it, because it replaces all preexisting pups with variants. Two, it freezes the game when spawning a Tundrapup because of Unshackled Co-op. Tundrapups seem like my favorite of the four, but I can't even have them because of an apparently unfixable issue, and I like Unshackled Co-op too much to turn it off. For the actual pup behaviors, I think it changes vanilla pups slightly too. Regardless, if any of these listed points were with a special pup, then they definitely don't count, like with that scavenger one.

Ahh, I usually keep Pups+ pups from spawning, mostly because it interferes with genetic slugpups, which bothers me. I don't use Unshackled Co-op, so I didn't know about that. To add, the scavenger note was with the only Pups+ pup, and the other behaviours have been observed with both Pups+ pups and regular pups, though again the scavenger one was Pups+ specific. For some reason, even with all Pups+ chances turned to zero, with Genetic slugpups, artificer still created a hunter pup. Stuff happens.

pups+ is getting some changes to pup ai last i checked, it said it was only amplifying the effect personality stats have on slugpup behaviour although we dont realy know what it does exactly.

Quick question do slugpups glow after eating a neuron?
